Hello,

Well, I decided to try Dr. Color Chip for my Jet Black Beast and thought I'd give some preliminary observations.

For those who don't know, it's basically a 2 step touch up paint kit. The first step is a liquid that is the actual color of the car, you paint the chip or scratch with an included fine brush, then "rub" it out using a glove they provide you with. Then wait less than a minute to let it dry.

Then, you use this Pinkish liquid solution on a towel, called Prefast, which you lightly rub over the the touch up paint, which removes the excess paint and supposedly leaves the scratch or chip filled with your touch up color.

That said, I followed the directions as suggested and after several layers, I managed to fill up a small 1 inch scratch. However, the touch up paint is a bit cloudy, so the scratch is still obviously there, but instead of being on a white background, the scratch is a milky black color.

I also tried it on a 1 and 2mm diameter chip and got the same results.

However, the directions say that you should wait 7-10 days for the paint to cure, at which time, it will cure to a shine. So I'll followup in a few days with my final observations and some photos.

Yes, if it does dry to a shine, as they say it should, then it's going to be a great product. I do also like the fact that it's very "watery" vs. regular touch up paint, so w/ a very fine brush, it would be easier to apply anyway.

BUT, I did buy it for the ability to create a flush finish with the paint... time will tell.

It sounds similar to the Langka product www.langka.com except that with Langka you use factory touch up paint and overfill the chip. You let it dry for between 2 and 24 hours and then buff the paint blob down to the same level as the paint surface using their special paste on a rag wrapped around a credit card. The Langka system works pretty well even on metallic paints, I used it on my (now sold) Steel Blue Metallic 330i and the chips were invisible after the paint had cured completely.

I started a thread on this already and reported good results. The many road rash chips require a going over twice as the shallow chips don't hold much paint on first go.

any before and after pics?

Based on the fact that Dr Color Chip won't ship outside the 48  I'm gonna give Langka a shot based on jhowton's review and others that I've read. Product does sound promising.

You know just take the guess work out of it. Go to your local BMW or any dealer, find out who does their "touch up work" on used cars. Call the guy, set up an appointment and have the bumper/body panel of your choince done. It's usually betwwen 25-35 dollars a panel to have him/her air brush the chips and then acetone off the overspay. It's invisible when done and a perfect match for the car. Why do you think the paint jobs are near perfect on the certified pre-owned vehicles?
