i was told by my dealer that the rear airbags are installed but deactivated by default in the US.
your dealer should activate them upon your request free of charge.
my understanding is that if you transport kids in the back seats you're better off leaving them deactivated since the force of the inflation is strong enough to hurt a small child.
if you only transport groceries and adults there's no good reason to leave 'em off.
