The day before Thanksgiving we got our first snowfall - 10 inches! So I put the snow tires on - Dunlop Winter Sport M2's on factory wheels, and placed two 70-pound sand bags in the trunk.

Pros:
Snow traction, obviously. It's really pretty good.
The ride is softer and quieter over expansion joints and holes.
Wet traction is great.

Cons:
Perhaps 20% loss of dry surface grip (abandoned parking lot test).
Factory shadow-chrome wheels look dirty even when they're clean.
Slightly more tire noise at high speed.

I've decided to post the Fikse wheels in the FOR SALE section. PM me if interested.

ELEVENS,

Wow, I didn't see that one coming! What are you going to do about wheels once the snow clears?

I have had my winters on for three weeks now and I really miss my summer tires :(

I am using Kumho Izen V rated winters on Style 66 wheels... We have not had any real snow yet, I am sure that I will be happy then. But in dry, these tires are a major downgrade in traction.

Hey Bill, what did you do to deserve 10 inches of the white stuff? Just don't send it south east please. :hihi:

The Fikse look gorgeous on your beast, what are your plans?

Regards,
T.

Fellas,

Since the addition of the 330Xi for rain/snow use, my M5 has become more of a fair-weather car. So I'm attempting to reduce my investment in the beast, and thought one set of wheels would be plenty. I suppose I could sell the stock wheels instead, hmmmm.

 :2:

Bill,

Do you notice any improvement in handling or accelteration with the lighter Fikse wheels on?

Although I much prefer the 19" version of the Profil 10, it is a great quality and looking wheel. In person they are much better looking, similar to M5's, wouldn't you agree?

Oh yea, huge improvement. But then again I'm comparing the lighter and wider Fikse wheels w/street tires vs. factory M5 wheels w/snow tires.

No comparo!

Chin up Bill, spring's coming-----in about 6 months hiha

I've been waiting 'till the absolute last second to put mine on--I practically have my portable NOAA weather radio glued to my ear constantly these days.
