Hey all,

I changed my air filters yesterday and it got me thinking if there is a master list somewhere of BMW's suggested PM schedule?

For example how often do they recommend changing air filters?
Coolant
Fuel filter

On and on and on...

Does anyone have a master list from the factory of the suggested times?

Thanks!

I don't have a master from BMW, but for as cheap as the parts/fluid are, I have my own schedule for a piece of mind.

oil - 5k
transmission - 20k
diff - 20k
intake filters - 10k
cabin filters - 10k
fuel filter - 30k
coolant - every other year
brake fluid - every other year
power steering fluid - every other year

I do not track my car btw.

Edit your your title, Chris! If a newbie happens to look for "preventative maintenance" instead of the acronym, they'll miss out on this thread.

We always ***** at people who don't search, so let's make sure that the content shows up when they actually do :)

Given BMWs poor maintenance recommendations on things like tranny or diff fluid, and fuel filter, I'm not sure I'd go by their "preventative" maintenance schedule...

The only thing it prevents is proper maintenance that THEY would pay for under free maintenance....

BMW's intervals are biased imho because under their 'free' maintenance plan they were paying.

Add to timmay's list:
spark plugs 30-40k (most other makers use this interval)
MAFs 75-100k
O2 sensors - 100k max
cabin filters- because they're charcoal (absorbing odors 24x7) infused I replace mine yearly
coolant - BMW says every 3 years regardless of mileage iirc
thermostat - check it each fall/winter/spring for proper operation
CPS' - some say these wear out with mileage also. I'm not convinced 100%.

Good call, I forgot about plugs. Thanks.

I would consider MAF's, O2 sensors, Thermostat, and CPS's more of a "consumable". Not really a PM item, more like "Inspection 1 or 2" items.

I usually replace fluids and regular engine maintenance items before they have a chance to fail. Yes my cost is a little more, but at least I KNOW my oil isn't breaking down, for example.

Here's the inspections list from BMW.
Like everybody said, you probably need to do the preventive maintenance more frequent.
