I'm sure this has been addressed before but I didn't know what terms to search. Is there a way to adjust the sensitivity of the "add motor oil" warning alarm? Thanks

Why do you want to adjust the sensitivity of such an important warning system?

Just curious.

You would have to make a mechanical modification to do this. The oil level sensor is set in place in the lower oil pan. It is essentially an on/off device.

PN of the sensor is 12 61 7 508 003

Again, why would you want to do this?

I was looking at the information on the new 330 and they were talking about how it doesn't have a dipstick in the engine bay anymore. The oil level can be checked on the OBC and it will show you a gauge similar to a gas gauge. New fandangled technology!

Actually, the fellow who sold me the car said he had adjusted it to make it very sensitive (i.e., to make it go off when oil was just slightly low). This was after the "add oil" light went off during a test drive. Perhaps he was B.S.ing me.
