Hi Everyone,

I may be looking at buying a '93 M5 in the near future. Can someone please tell me of a shop or mechanic in Ontario, preferably around Toronto that knows these cars that could check it out for me?

(This is that blue one that I mentioned way back when, Town & Country BMW, does anyone know any problems with this car?)

Thanks in advance,
Dmitry

Hi BD

Is the car at Town & Country and you don't trust them? I have a friend in Toronto that I could ask regarding shops in Toronto if that's the case.

Hi Carl,

Yep, if you can do that, that would be awesome! I'm totally in love with this car but I'm just trying to justify paying this much. The thing is, if converted to US currency, it's actually not that expensive, about 26k. However, there's another way of looking at it. In CAD, it's 40k and there are several 1997 540i's, 540i Sports, and 740i's available for 35-40. They've had this car for over half a year they've gotta be getting tired of it. It's also just over 100 kms on the odo so I've sent them an ultimatum of sorts. I said if you knock down the price to 35, replace (or show me that they have been replaced) the water pump and the guibo (standard for this milage right?) and let a specialist check the car then I'll take it. I hope they go for it but if they don't, I'll walk away. I'm not that insane. I love the car but I can most definitely live with a fully loaded '97 540i Sport.

Here 'tis:

Jeez...I convinced them to sell it for 35...ok guys, here I go!!! I just hope I clear the financing if I get my dad to cosign. This is actually the last year BMW will finance it since they have a limit of 8 model years. FINGERS CROSSED!

If not I have a nice 88 lined up for 18 CAD.

Hi Dmitry

Good luck I hope it works out. As a price reference, there was a 92 with 60KKm in Vancouver that sold for 29K.

Hi Carl,

Thanks, can you still find out about a shop in TO?

Dang, wish I could get that price. But did it look that good? :) I have two failsafes so it's pretty much guaranteed that this month, I'll buy an M5! (thinking about it makes me tingle, especially my right foot...) I waited too long on a white M5 and they got the price down to 22k and another used car dealer bought it and now offers it at 30. I can probably talk them down to 26 or so. If that doesn't work, then I'll get the 88. Or should I? It's a Euro spec motor (286 hp), the owner seems to be a real enthusiast and has full books to prove his TLC. I've read that the E34 is one of the most reliable Bimmers ever but how about the E28? It looks a bit homely with those bumpers but with the GO that it offers, I can get over it.

Thanks again,
Dmitry

Hi Dmitry

I just talked to my friend in TO, and he uses BUDs BMW in Oakville. He has had very good experience with them. Non dealer, he recommends Mantis Racing in Oakville.

I'D HIGHLY RECOMMEND BEACH AUTO IN TORONTO TO GIVE YOU AN INFORMED AND OBJECTIVE APPRAISAL ON YOUR POTENTIAL PURCHASE.
I HAVE PURCHASED 5 BMW'S FROM BEACH AND HAVE NEVER BEEN DISAPPOINTED INCLUDING MY PRESENT RIDE, A '91 M5 THAT I PURCHASED FROM THEM "SIGHT UN-SEEN".
LIVING IN B.C I TOLD THEM WHAT I WANTED IN AN M5 AND WHEN I HAD THE CAR SHIPPED TO BC FROM TORONTO,IT WAS IN EVEN BETTER SHAPE THAN THEY DESCRIBED !! YOU CAN TRUST THEM.
I HOPE YOU ENJOY YOUR M5---IT LOOKS GREAT!!

Thanks guys! I actually found a much better one! I still can't get over the condition of this one. I swear, if I didn't know better, I'd say it just rolled off the line. The interior is flawless, down to the ashtrays being shiny. He cleaned the engine so you could eat off of it. He said that he actually wanted to keep it for himself but if he can make a profit, why not. He actually has 2 M3's and a Viper (one of the M3's is an M30 with an S38B36!!!! that he races at MoSport). I checked the BMW Club of Canada, he's for real. He polished the heads of the motor and already installed a roll bar. It's a white 92 with about 140k km. All this for 27K CAD.

Hi, I located in To. and think that white 92
is not that good. I would be careful. If you need any help let me know, I'm near where
that cars located. Also a major inspection is
needed, that engine costs a fortune to rebuild.

BD, What happened with the negotiations on the Blue 93, I always loved that color and from a US pricing perspective that seemed pretty cheap for a 93 w/that milaege, unless it had mechanical problems.

Rock:
Are you sure we're talking about the same car? The one at Truckland Auto (they bought it from Colson)? I'm gonna have it inspected but I sincerely doubt any negative outcome. To me, the interior is a good indicator of how the car is treated. This one is like it was brand new. BUT, we'll see.

Tim:
When it comes to money things don't translate directly over the border with the conversion. People in Canada don't get paid 1.5 times what you do. For instance, our '99 Odyssey is 24 in the states, 33 in Canada. Same goes for just about any car.

I do love that colour and the interior is nice even though it has that nasty airbag wheel. What it came down to is that they said they could only finance it for 2 years. I don't have that kind of $$$, plain and simple. Well, I don't objectively have the dough for the 92 either but who said anything about objectivity when it comes to enthusiasm.

How much does inspection cost at Beach Auto?

Right, but have you actually seen the white 92? What makes you think it's no good?

TC BMW have a nice blue one, the only one I've seen around here but they want 40k for it. I've talked Bill at Truckland to 27 so it's not that bad. Colson had it at that price then it went all the way down to 23, I was gonna buy but Bill intercepted me. :) Gotta pay for being too slow.

Right, I am, I'm just wondering what made you say that it's no good? Is there something you know that I should?

Take a look at my car first. 1993 Silver M5 with black interior. The car looks and drives like new.

I live in Waterloo, Ontario Canada.

The car has a new block, pistons, chains, clutch, exhaust, brakes, oil pumb, all the bearings are new, 6 new Bridgestone SO2 plus Racing Dynamic rims (235's on front, 245s on rear, 4 new winter Michelin Pilots on stock turbine wheels. The head has been completely disassembled and reconditioned with new guides. All of the rims have been refinised and look new. Well over $20,000 invested in the last year. Plus, the engine has an unlimited mileage warranty til Dec/01.

I have seen and driven the blue M5 at TC BMW, it is a piece of junk compared to mine.

My repair experience with the car has left tainted my love for the vehicle. All of the damage was done due to a faulty repair of a leaky head gasket. The mechanic apparently over torched the head cracking the block and damaging the pistons.

The car has 116,500 kilometers. Plus a transferable warranty (after market) until October 2001.

If you are serious about buying an M5, you should take a look at mine.

I will likely put it up for sale in the spring.

How much do you think you're gonna ask for it?

The white one I'm looking at right now is perfect as far as I'm concerned. We agreed on 27k with a 1 year warranty. Price is very important sicne I'm financing it. With the grief you went through, you probably won't want to beat that.

Watch out for cheap M5's bigd. That white 92 has been kicking around for awhile. Don't rush an M5 purchase. Cars come up quite regularly and $39K for 100K is a rip-off.
