Outrageous!!!

Hi all,

Took a lap yesterday in the Ring-taxi with Sabine Schmitz and I will try to share this some of this experience with you.

We (my two eldest sons and I) entered the beautiful white Ring-taxi and slowly drove up to the entrance of the Nordschleife. At that moment the track was closed because of an accident which has taken place just before. But we were in front of the gate so we had a free track ahead of us. And about fifteen minutes later Sabine finally drove us onto the track. She said it was OK if we would like to tape the tour, so we did. At first we took a rather long and not so curvy section and we thought: is that all there is to it? But then the first real curves made us withdraw this remark! My goodness, what a car and even more: what a driver! Sabine is really controlling the car in such a way that you really feel safe inside the car, but your kidneys, stomach and what's more inside your body are screaming to slow down. The G-forces are torturing every part of your system and the differences in heights make you feel like you're in some kind of rollercoaster. It's unbelievable how the M5 handles. It's glued to the track and is reaching speeds in the curves which I've never held for possible! And Sabine? Well, she's just having fun and is driving around in a relaxed way. She found even time to joke around. When we were drifting through a curve with some 200 km/h she stretched her arm to the back and asked if she could take some pics for she's getting bored a little! Well, some 73 curves later we ended up in the long straight towards the finish-line and then we realised what has been happening to us the last 8 minutes or so. We have been experiencing a supercar which handles in an easy way, even to (and sometimes a little over) it's limits. And to my opinion the Nordschleife is one of the best tracks to see for the car's abilities. This really is a must for every M5 driver or enthusiast to do, because there simply is no other way of telling what this car can do in ectreme situations. In everyday use you will (hopefully) never come in such extreme situations as here on the Nordschleife, but it is good to see what the M5 can do. We only had one minor problem and that is that the airco was unable to give us enough cooling down: we climbed out of the M5 and it looked as if we had taken a shower. I still don't know if our perspiration was from fear or excitement (though Im quite sure that it was from the latter). hiha

And the video? We've looked it at home but it is too bumpy to show and it's full with ooh's and aah's every time we go around a curve. But I have some pics which I'm glad to share with you! And again: book a trip in the Ring-taxi, go down there and have only a few fantastic minutes, of which I'm sure that you won't be forgetting them very soon! :M5thumbs:

Enrico

Excellent story. I hope you post the video here...
Re: Outrageous!!!

Nice write-up. Do you know how long the wait is to book a lap with the ring-taxi? Also, did Sabine say or could you see what the settings were on the car during the lap, i.e. S5, SMG or Drive, EDC on/off etc. Definitely would like to see the video, or maybe the best parts if you could edit and post. Thanks!!

Thank you.
Kevmmm

Very nice write-up. Can you provide some details on making a reservation for a ride?
GREAT Story! And very nice pictures!

Sabine is so sexy!

Hi all again,

Thanx for the enthusiastic replies. Glad you liked the report and even better news is coming up..........I asked Gustav how to upload the vid because of it's size and when I know how to I'll join the vid with you.

And for those who want to book: all information can be held at the site of the Ring-taxi: http://www.bmw-motorsport.com/ring-taxi.
You first fill in your details in the section Ticket kaufen, then transfer the money and finally you'll receive a code to make a reservation for a certain date and time in the Termin buchen-section. Is simple and easy (even I understood it
), but I think it's very popular because just after the start of the 2005 Ring-taxi season I received an email from them that the first series was fully booked and that a new series is planned. So if anyone wants to go for it, don't wait too long.

Greetz,

Enrico

Thank you for the information.
Good reminder - I might just have to take a detour on my way back from Buchloe in October!
