Oh.. came back to my lovely beast and some rat has parked too close, snapped the door mirror off, and then run away.

This mirror - which is unmarked, but hanging on the wiring loom - has about twelve wires going into it (Twelve ? what on earth are they for ? into a *mirror* ?) and I'm surely looking at several hundred £ to replace it.

But.. closer examination shows that all that's happened is a single, simple, cast alloy mounting bracket has snapped off and just maybe, if I was a thoughtful German manufacturer, I would allow for the fact that mirrors do get whacked, and put a simple sacrificial bracket on there which would snap first and could be replaced without replacing the whole mirror. Can anyone shed any light, or relate similar mirror-dangling experiences ? is getting at the mirror mounting something I can do myself if I can get the part ? I hate removing car trim panels more than most tasks but it might be worth it here.
