OT: My new toy

I know this isn't M5 related, but as speed demons I figured you would all appreciate it. I just bought a new toy: 2005 Seadoo RXP:

215 HP super-charged motor, top speed of about 65 MPH and reported to accelerate from 0 to 60 in under 4 seconds!

Are they a blast or what? Looks really Sweeeet. The motor is a four stroke isn't it? Enjoy
Boz
Interesting that an extra 50HP only nets 5 mph over my 2002 Yamaha 1200R (165 HP, 60 MPH). I guess only so much water can flow thru the impeller tunnel.

Steve

Nice ski, btw.
Holy crap, that thing has more HP than my Jetta! It's been quite some time since I have been on a jetski, but those things are a blast. Have fun with the new toy.
So Phil,

Is that for Delta cruising, or you take that out onto the bay?

CP
Thanks for the comments.

Boz M5: Yes, it's a 4-stroke triple. I believe all the manufacturers are going to 4-strokes to meet the tighter emission standards.

TurboCarrera: I have a feeling the 65 MPH is conservative, but you never know. According to the dealer, it's the current speed champion -- for whatever that's worth. I'm more interested in acceleration than I am top speed. Anything over 50 on the water is fricking fast!

BmwNut: Thanks, I plan to!

chunpng: No, it's going to be on a small lake called Lake Tulloch in the foothills. Not too small, however! :hihi: They do have a model with a built-in GPS to help navigate places like the Delta.
Phil,

Aren't you glad that it's pushing 100 degress inland? Now you can really enjoy your 'cool' toy.

Have a ton of fun, even though it's wet.

Nice Ski - I used to be in to the Sea-Doo ski's a few years back. 98 XPL and a 96 GTX. Both modded of course :hihi:

Fun skis - I rode mine from West Palm Beach FL to the Bahamas - great trip.

I wondered how fast these new skis really are. Mine topped out around 65 on a GPS and was pretty quick 0-60. 2 stroke of course 135hp.

Phil- thats awesome! Congrats. Is that a picture of you? Lookin' good! :D

I wish... ;)

The one down-side to the heat is moving at those speeds makes the air temp even hotter. I ride my current GSX around then purposely fall off just to cool off!

I stay away from the modding -- plenty fast as it is and the wife wouldn't go for it anyway :hihihi: . I bet that trip to the Bahamas was great! Was it solo or did you ride as a group? I'd hate to get stuck out there without some backup. BTW, the new boats (at least from Seadoo) all have closed water cooling systems. Makes salt-water boating better.

I currently have a 96' GSX. This will become a nice stablemate.
With this heatwave when I saw that picture my first thought was God I miss the lake.

Nice purchase I’m jealous.. with the baby on the way I doubt the wife will let me go to the gym let alone the lake :)

Thats what they all say, lol!

That's wild. I believe it.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it! :haha:
I just got back from Vacation. One day I rented a 110hp Yamaha Seadoo. Even that much less powerful motor rocketed that thing up to 45mph extremely quick. The speedo ticked 55mph several times, and flashed up to 60 one (a little optimistic I think). Your right, anything over 50 on anything but smooth water gets a little hairy.

Have fun with it, they are great.

Those things are great. We played around with those the other day as well. Mine only had around 150 HP :grrrr: but going over 55 mph it really was on the edge of falling off :hihihi:

You one seems crazy fast :wroom:

I went with 9 guys - we had 3 GPS going and a backup. Yes pretty exciting. I give credit to all the sailors out there - once you see a 360 degree horizon that means game is on and you better have all your sh*t in order or you could die real fast.

A pipe, jetting kit and flame arresters my GTX would keep up with most sport boats. The 800 motor is bomb proof. I don't guess mods for he 4 strokes are too plentiful yet - but they will come.

Some day I will get back into it. I used to ride in the Chesapeake Bay all the time near Annapolis. Miss those days - made for great weekends. The 4 strokes and closed loop cooling is better for the environment. Technology is awsome. They were banning places to ride left and right when I was riding.
M5 content - I washed mine today then went to the pool for beers
Nice new toy, enjoy:biggrin:
Congrats, Phil -

Be sure to get a hold of me if you ever plan to do a little testing at Lake Sonoma..... ;)
I'm interested to know how much of a difference the supercharger makes. I've got a couple Yamaha GP1200Rs (160 HP) that when you give them full throtle from a stop seem to just eat a hole out of the water underneath you. So unless the Seadoos have a larger water intake grate and larger impeller, I can't see how the extra power could add to the 0-60 time. The under four seconds suprises me, but I've gotten well into the 60s.

Have fun and give us a report!
