There are two different style drive shafts on the main oil pump.

The earliest design used flats machined on the shaft and inside the sprocket to prevent slippage on the drive shaft. These would sometimes round and fail.

The newer design uses a splined shaft and sprocket for positive engagement.

Essentially, does the sprocket hole have teeth or flats?

It's got teeth, I was able to contact Troy (very nice guy and willing to help) and he cleared it up for me. The pan is back on and the subframe is all buttoned up. A couple more peaces and its ready to go!!!! I'll make a new threat about the adventure! Thanks for the help.

Good to see someone doing preventative maintenance on an S85. More people need to jump on the bandwagon. I want to take a vacation soon and can't because we keep selling motors...lol :p
