Prepare yourself, the first 5000 km you'll be shocked, it swallows oil like a holigan drinks beer
.

Cidair the first one to recieve the car and probably the one who has gone farest in it. Has a thread on 7 pages where he talks about all that, but I'll help you a bit

First refuelling today!

287km on 53 l of fuel

Still raining :crying:

SMG is awesome.
That's 18.7 litres/100km for your notice :hihi:

The oil level is down from 0.8L to 0.6L after 600km.

You just push the BC button until oil level appears between the instruments.

The indication 0.6L means that the level is 0.6L above minimum!

Made a trip of 540 km today. Highway cruising at 130 km/h.

Got 11.8 L/100km in total on this trip. Cruisecontrol, P400 and D2 mode.

Not the funniest driving experience, but anyway very comfortable.
He has around 1000 km on it here.

10 L of fresh TWS 10W-60 oil filled today.

9.3 L + 0.7L consumed during breakin period ( 2000 km ).

10 L oil = 2000 SEK ( = $ 280 ) + labor = 0 SEK!!!

3 years or 80.000 km free service
As you see, around 2000 km, so the totalt consumed oil for 2000 km was 0,7L.

Best: 11.8 L / 100 km - highway cruising at 130 km/h

Worst: 19.9 L / 100 km - spirited driving on curvy roads in P500, S4, max
6500 rpm

My car is never dirty :1:

Just kidding, will post a pic when convenient.
This is when he has around 3000 km on the clock.

Another 1000 km driven. Total of 3200 km.

Oil consumption still quite high, 0.3 L / 1000 km. Or maybe it´s normal for an M? Don´t remember what my E39 M5 consumed. On the 545 it was not noticeable.

My mechanic told me that BMW M will tolerate a consumption of 1.8 L / 1000 km before they take any action on the M engines!?

Or maybe it´s the measuring system that´s not accurate :confused2
The electronic figure drop abruptly from 0.8 L to 0.5 L in the last 300 km.

You have to rely on the computer these days( no dip stick, remember! )!

Oilconsumption is a little harder to measure because of the not so good measuring system. Not accurate and reliable enough! I´ve heard that there should be a new software available. Have to check that with the dealer.
This was his latest comment about oil, made the 13th of July.

Thank you cidair for giving out so much information :)

I hope you can use it divere

This clearly varies dramatically from car to car... I have done 2010 miles in my car now and haven't used a single drop of oil. The reading on the dash was 0.8l when I picked the car up. It hadn't changed when I took it in for the first service at 1350 miles. When I got it back it was reading 0.5l and now, almost 700 miles later it still hasn't changed! I wish it used up petrol so slowly...

Oil consumption on my M5 is thirsty. Up to 1200m fell from 0.9 to 0.2l. Then to 2300m fell from 0.9 to 0.3l. I have bought a spare bottle kept in the boot.

I also take my car to the dealer for top-up (like the CSL which was rather complicated when adding oil as no dipstick and the carbon fibre had to be taken removed to access the oil fillpoint).

Is the M5 similar when adding oil as I am afraid of overfill on the car ?

Any advice please. Thanks.

My M5 was reading 0.0l when it went in for its first service at 1200m. I have just put the third litre of oil in and have covered 5600m.

CSL has a dipstick ( under the air intake )
And the oil fill point is ontop of th engine just like a normal M3, with nothing having to be removed to get to it
