Just kidding- do a search on 'what oil to use'... it is easily the most popular topic here. Every few months there is a thread that collects 60-80 responses. A lot of great info in the search. And a lot of contention...

Easy, easy car to do your own. I do UOA (used oil analyses) so I collect a sample when changing. BMWs interval is laughable. I figure 5k or so is fine.

Royal Purple Racing 51 (20w50) oil changes every 5k miles with 2.5k mile oil filter changes in between...

I do my own every 5K with 5w30. It also drinks a ~quart in between changes.

Every 2500-3000 miles with 5W30.
I know, I know, it's a very short interval between changes with synthetic but changing oil often is cheap insurance.

5W-30 every 5K miles, a lot of stop a go traffic. I always do it myself. Castrol oil is what I use. I get the filter from the dealership.

Anyone got a better place to get the filters from?

I do mine. This is the easiest oil change of any car I've owned. No reaching down between a hot engine block and hot water hoses to loosen an oil filter a 1/16 turn at a time, spilling oil all over the exhaust headers.....

I buy the change kit (filter plus filter o-ring + drain plug gasket) from Pacific BMW - they have very good prices on parts and fast delivery.

Almost a ditto.

My F250 4x4 turbodiesel doesn't require the use of a jack. But come to think of it, I need a short ladder to get the oil back in, so maybe it is a wash!
