My son has a 2008 e90 with an n51 engine. Today he was replacing the gasket between the oil filter housing and the aluminum engine block. Somehow during this procedure he managed to break off part of the engine block that one of the bolts securing the filter housing attaches to. I would describe it as an "ear" coming off the block, which includes part of the mating surface. He is pretty distraught, I am looking for thoughts on whether this can be repaired and who/how one would go about getting it done. I know this is perhaps an inappropriate question for this group, but I would be much indebted for any guidance that the group can provide. Thanks!

you can probably have someone weld that for a proper fix. I would just take it apart again, run some aluminum epoxy and sealant and hope for the best. epoxy that tip back on and wait, take apart and run some sealant (new gasket) along the edge and around coolant hole, some more epoxy around the tip, let all that sit and hope for the best.
