hmm.. having an older car wins again! (presumably).. older cars have aluminium cover as opposed to plastic :p still makes it worthwhile going for a CF variant :wroom:
Hmmm ... Older means How Much Older?? Checkout this link:

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=DE93&mospid=47592&btnr=11_2669&hg=11&fg=40

According to this ... The Upper and Lower Plenum changed as of 12/1999.
Since that date of 12/1999 ... ALL the Plenums have the same Part Number ... Which I would take as they are all the same. They are as follows:

Upper plenum until 12/99 11 61 1 407 045
Upper plenum from 12/99 11 61 7 831 262

Lower plenum until 12/99 11 61 1 407 386
Lower plenum from 12/99 11 61 7 831 265

I spoke with Dave Belknap at Gault BMW and He confirm the above as being correct.

GUYS , out of interest shall I ask my carbon guy if he wants to make a higher volume cover in carbon with perspex window in it ?

Were you not saying how this cracked or something ?

Let me know if of interest
cool, thanks ed, yep mine is a 9/99 build, and is aluminim :)

Roy, yep, I'd defo be up for the higher volume cf cover, even if the supercharger conversion doesn't work out. Perspex windows would be ideal, but not worth it, if the risks of cracking/leaking are there. Bbloch's car was one with the perspex window'd cf enginer covers, however under some load had cracked/leaked.

Also note, that it'll still need to clear a front strut brace, like the your Custom CA and Dinan ones ;)

thanks
Tin
ok Tin , how bout you try and get a group buy for at least 5 unitsand see what we can do

what is the retail cost on the genuine item and who makes it again ?

I dont want to tread on daniels toes here as we are now representing him in UK
Roy it was a custom fabrication by one of Discovery Automotive's afiliates - I believe they made 10 units, but not sure whether they have been sold.

My understanding is that Bryan's cracked perspex was replaced immediately by a thicker version which has been fine since.

Roger
ok guys

I would need one of these originals to replicate ..can we get one does anyone know ?
ah cool.. wasn't sure if it was fixed with another clear perspex one or std cf one..

I'll post up a new thread for this roy. :M5thumbs: clicky for new thread

I'm happy to take the cover off my car for measurents etc, let me know if that helps, but i suspect your referring to one that already has been made. :crying2:

thanks

Roger:

I believe that EuroBahn also makes a Carbon Fiber Upper Plenum cover for the E39 M5. I know there is a company here in Los Angeles (Merridian) that carries their product. I believe that the CF Upper Plenum runs about $1700 USD and it will accept the Dinan Front Strut Bar.
Thanks Ed - looks good, but very pricey!

I recall a couple of years ago, Beastpower was trying to develop a CF Upper Plenum for the M5 for around $1,000 ... Needless to say ... It never materialized.

If you do a quick search, I am sure that you can find various discussions on it.
Yes, I saw daniel's car back in 2003 at a local meet in the uk, it had the earlier prototype cf cover (before the eurobahn was available), he said it wasn't viable, as after long term testing, the cf coating would turn green, and look like "mould". Hopefully that was the case a couple of years ago, now that cf glazing has become more sophiscated/new fabricating tools etc, this shouldn't be an issue anymore.
UPDATE AS OF THIS MORNING :

the DEMO M5 Twin S/C is on the road :),

Premier this Saturday at a BMW meet abroad.

Needs refinement of the ECU mapping, and Pulley resizing - (pushed over 1 bar now) - NOT HEALTHY ....

Photos & some Video will be posted at the weekend hopefully

Also need to fit a wideband lambda and exhaust-temp before next week - then Dyno-time, more video from that of course. :)

Thanks for the quick reply!

Would the C38 supercharger be too much for this application? Are you even maxing out the C30? I realize that the no internal work = required low boost for bolt-on ability. Just curious.

Good luck with project
I am now wondering if this ca auto kit or the ess tunning kit will be out first?

maybe AA will beat both of them to the punch?
