Sorry if this is a re-post, but according to Edmunds : "Stephan Reil, says it will turn a lap of the Nürburgring in 8:09, some 20 seconds faster than the previous-generation RS6."

That would make it about 4 seconds faster than the M5 Sport Auto tested. :grrrrr:
This means that the Sedan version will be even faster with 300lbs less weight.

These time are very reliant on what cars wear R rubber and which ones do not. There is NO CHANCE lN HELL that with the same tires, a top driver and dry weather that the new 2055kg RS6 Avant with a slushbox is quicker around the Nurburgring than the 1750kg (both these figures are the dry weight) E60 SMG M5 sedan.

+1 also wondering about this. I seem to remember an interview with Sabine, ring-taxi driver, that unofficially the taxi drivers are not allowed to go faster than 8-minute laps, but that she wouldn't acknowledge not having done it. To me, that means the E60 M5 is capable of sub-8 minute laps in the hands of a pro.

LET'S NOT FORGET THE OTHER MONSTER.............

I think we have more competition with the other Japanese monster coming out soon. It is my understanding, that the new 09 Skyline, bound for the U.S. lapped the ring in under 8 minutes, the fastest ever. :1zhelp:

However, I agree that tire compounds and driver m\make a HUGE difference. An awesome magazine shootout would be these three cars, with the same driver and same spec tires. Who would be the fastest then????

I think that other monster pulled a 7:3x lap time. Check out http://www.r35gtr.com/, and scroll down to the September '07 updates. Appears that they already gunned down the 997 Turbo, and were setting their sites on a lap time equal to or besting the Carrera GT at 7:28.

Its not really a fair comparison to compare Sportauto time with factory time. First its different driver and second we dont know if the car is preproduction car and if it was with R-tires or not.

BMW claim the M5 does the N-ring around 8.00 min, they do not mention an exact time which mean its possible that M5 done below 8.09 min.

So if you want to compare RS6 to M5 wait til Sportauto get their hands on the new RS6 to get a "fair" comparison..

You are confusing Bridge to Gantry times (Sabine quote) and full lap times. Sabine and the other professional taxi drivers are not allowed to go faster than 8:30s BTG.

FYI 8:00 BTG equals about 8:30s full lap.

I doubt the new RS6 will be faster than the E60 M5, but it will be close...

What planet are you on? The GTR is a 2-seater in no one designed to compete with the M5. Of course it'll be quicker around a track but I don't think you'd find any of US trading. On the highway though, it keep up top with our cars or do it in as much luxury. Furthermore, it won't sound like the offspring of an F1 car either.

The RS6 sedan will be a close run thing. The Avant is too much of a pig to compete.
