New gearbox at 80k miles?!

Sounded like the synchro was going (whining noise when in gear) so took it in..Thank God for extended warranty!! 2 weeks wait for the parts grrrrrrr

Anyone else had this?

I had mine replaced at 9,000....yeah 9

Gus, please share whether or not you ran OEM lifetime lubricant and whether it was changed.
Always serviced at BMW dealer and engine oil regularly topped up with Castrol TWS as recommended..

Glad the warranty worked.

Please, tell me.

1. Was any gears difficult to engage when the gear-box was cold?

2. Did you hear a whining noise when disengaging any particular gear?

Gearbox still works fine, just makes a whining noise in all gears when accelerating and decelerating (not very loud but noticeable)

Then it is probably not the sync rings, I think. Is there enough oil in the gearbox?

Just curious: How do you know it is the gearbox and not the propeller shaft or the differential?

Yes Gus, just got my car back with brand new gearbox.Mine also has just turned 80k. Claimed on extended warranty,had new clutch fitted while box was out. Feels like a new car again.:haha:
