I just got back from meeting with the service advisor. He told me that berings broke off from a faulty VANOS pump and they would be replacing the engine due to metal shavings in the engine! It was the '07, with 4400 miles.

Has anyone else heard of this problem?

TIA,

Steve

By chance, was the problem on the passenger side of the engine under the black plastic piece covering the valve cover? Did it make a vibration from time to time, usually when the engine cold or warm? This is what I'm experiencing, but no power loss or anything like that; simply annoying noise and a vibration, if you lift the hood and place our hand on the plastic piece I described.
