right, with much sadness, here goes.
click on the link, for some cracking pics of the car,
BMW E34 M5 4Star Classics
its a 1994, l reg, private plate stays on car, valued at £450

i think the add, gives much better pics than i could take, and post here, although i have a few on my files, if anybody would like to see more. i bought the car from 4starclassics, back in june last year, the add caught my eye, whilst i was still out on tour, and as soon as i got back to the uk, i went and looked at the car, instantly fell in love with it. although the mileage was then 149000 miles, after having a really good look around the car, then going through its huge file of history, (so that i knew it had been properly maintained) i took it for a test drive, and that was that, i knew it would be mine. the car drives like a dream, it feels like it has done 50000 miles, rather than its now current mileage of 153500, its just a dream to drive, as i'm sure most on here already know. it doesn't matter if your munching motorway miles, cruising down the highway, plodding around town, or going for "abit" of a blast on some twistier b type roads, the car just performs at every level, it has surpassed all my expectations, by a mile:grinyes:
as you can see by all the pics on the above link, the car is, in my opinion, very, very good condition, for a car of this age, and mileage covered, another sign, of how well over the years it has been looked after, my mrs has always nagged me at how long i take to clean a car, but if a jobs worth doing and all that :) so i'm quite happy on a sunny day to go out there and spend 6-7 hours giving it the full works, i'm by no means a detailer, but really like to go the whole hog on washing, waxing and getting to every part of the car both inside and out.

as stated in the link, the car has a huge file of history, i have the original manual, service books from bmw showing services done, and then a mass of receipts from when the car was maintained by munich legends, and a couple of independent bmw specialists aswell. think there are bills and receipts in the folder, that add upto, approx £25000 from over the years.
when i got the car home, i took it to a local bmw independent specialist near to me, a couple of lads at work have m cars, both m3's, 1 an e30, the other an e46, so i took my car there for a general once over, and was very pleased with the response from the mechanics there. they had a look over, under and in the car, and even they were impressed, saying how clean it was, and how tight it felt.:D
i recently took the car back to them, as i'd put another 4000 miles on the car, so wanted an oils service done, and a few bits and bobs. the windscreen washer jets were not working, so the pipes were stripped and cleaned out, new washer jets were fitted and now all is well, i was having lissues with it being abit of a lazy starter, so a new battery has been fitted, as well as refitting rear door check strap pin. they correctly refitted the rear silencer heat shield, and removed the front seat, and welded it, for a repair, so its as good as new. they changed an amber bulb for me, as well as carrying out the oil service, safety checks and handbrake adjusment. so all in, for parts, labour, work done etc, including v.a.t i spent £501.

so, obviously this isn't a 30000 mile concourse car, and there are a few bits and bobs that need to be done, so here are the bad bits.
the windscreen is cracked, no real prob, as i'm in the process of getting a brand new windscreen fitted.
slight drive belt noise, only for a split second when setting off, so replace this, and tighten the other belts.
washer jets missing from n/side headlamp unit, i've been quoted £60.07p for part.
apparently they say the gearbox seals are just starting to show 1st signs of wear, and the diff oil seal has a very small leak on it. this would be my next job, were i keeping the car.
also, since owning the car, after you drive approx 1.5-1.8 miles, a warning pings up on the dash, saying, suspension levelling, check handbook. i got the garage to look into this, they measured the ride heights all round, and the car is within bmw's guided tolerance levels, and the garage say that all appears well, so after a chat with the main mechanic, it was decided, that as the car drove as it should, both normally, and under load, this fault would be investigated, abit at a time. he said they could spend several hours tracing this fault, which would add upto alot of labour, for what could turn out to be a minor sensor fault, loose wire or similar, and as there were no obvious faults on any of the suspension related parts, it does seem abit odd?
the only other things i can think off, are a couple of minor stone chips, which are to be expected really.

i personally think the exterior of the car is in very, very good condition, and the interior is mint, its simply stunning, the carpets, the seats etc, no sign of wear at all, and very, very, clean. everything works on the car to, the obc is fully functioning, with no pixel run, air con/heater sytem all good, heated front and rear screens all fine, the windows, mirrors, and full tilt and slide sunroof all operate exactly as you'd expect, as does the cruise control, everything is exactly as it should be, there is also an aftermarket kenwood cd unit in the car, which i rarely use, as i much prefer the rumble of the engine:grinyes:

so why am i selling??? its simple really, i'm a truck driver, and have been on the roads of europe for the past 17 years, the last 5 of these, doing tour work for bands, red hot chili peppers, rolling stones, elton john, linkin park, kylie etc, that sort of thing. middle of last year, i packed it in, as i'd just finished a year long tour, on the 'walking with dinosaurs show'. i though i needed to be at home for abit, so would give uk haulage a go. unfortunately, uk haulage sucks:( the hours, the horrendous uk roads, and the diabolical facilities have made me hate the job i do, and once you've done the whole rock n roll thing, anything else seems pretty poor in comparison, so surprise, surprise, this year i'm going back to the touring game. the trouble with this is, the car will just be surplus to requirements, as i'll be away 8-10 months of the year, and only ever home wintter time, so not ideally the best months to get the real pleasure and enjoyment of a car such as this, so rather than it sit here doing nothing, i feel its time to sell it on. had i not been going back on tour, the car would definetley not be getting sold. i love this car, and desperately want it to go to an enthusiast like the rest of us, someone that appreciates what these cars are really about, the fact that most of the time, there is always something to be done, including the regular trips to your local fuel suplier:eek:h:, we all know they are not a cheap car to run, but if loved and looked after in the correct way, you'd be hard pushed to find a more rewarding car to own and drive, this car has given me an immense amount of pleasure in the time i've had it, and will be sad the day it goes:crying: especially as it was the last of the hand built m cars, they are getting fewer and far between these days, especially the good ones, and they are becoming harder to find, probably as we all know, that in the future, they are only going to go up in value, these cars i feel are a real investment for the future.

i've been totally 100% honest with my add for the car, its good and bad points, as i'm not here to waste anyones time, and i wouldn't want anyone to be under any false illusions, if they were interested, and wanted to view the car, which is highly recomended, as is taking it for a test drive, which i'm more than happy to let you do, provided you have proof that you are insured to drive my vehicle, with fully comp insurance, if you don't have this, i am more than happy to take you for a nice long drive, but you'd have to be a passenger.

i've seen some e34 m5's for less money than i want, and some for more, i have just tried to price the car, at what i think is a very fair price, considering, age, condition history etc. the car is taxed till end of may, which is also when the m.o.t is due. i'd be happy to put a years m.o.t on the car, as i know it will sail through the test, and will do this for the buyer, once a deposit has been made, i think thats pretty fair, (i hope.)

so, i'm putting it up for £5200 ovno, and see what happens.
hope you like the add, any comments on the car/add welcome, and any questions please ask away,
thanks very much for looking, neil :)

The original ad states that the rear tyres are almost new but the fronts will need replacing soon - is this still the case ?

For reference, what make tyres are fitted ?

I've had experience of the SLS warning myself and found a broken wire leading to the sensor.

thanks for that, could you tell me where abouts the wire was, etc, thanks!

they put brand new tyres on the front, before i picked it up, but only budget ones. i thought i may aswell use them, until they needed replacing, then i would have gone for decent brand tyres.

Sorry to be picky but your front wheels have been put on the wrong way round (L+R have been swapped) in the last picture.

think when they put the new tyres on, they put the wheels back on wrong.
i didn't know until it was pointed out to me by another forum, so all sorted, and wheels now correct.
that last photo was taken, just after i'd got the car home :)

You sure it's a '94 model? (enter last 7 digits of VIN here RealOEM.com Online BMW Parts Catalog )

If so, why does it have a 'narrow nose' front end? just curious.
The 94 is a changeover year so it could be a 94 L registered narrow grill or a 94 M registered Wide grill Car build date might be 1993 but registration date can be a while after. There is a 1996 P registered M5 out there too!

Thanks Steve. I always thought the changeover was earlier. Having one of the oldest E34s I sometimes don't pay too much attention to the flash new ones!

Now sold.
Well done, cheap car! hope the new owner takes care of her and joins here too. I was interested but people not paying bills on time restricted my flow as the wife would not have another money pit on the drive.:dunno:

Good luck with the new/old job and enjoy the tours, hope you don't miss her too much
