I was driving home from work and about 15 mintues from home, I look down at the Nav screen and it is shutting on and off rapidly at about a pace of 40 times per minute. Next, the face plate starts to rotate down like I want to put in a tape, but stops half way through and starts to go back up. Up, down, up, down...this goes on until I get home. No matter what I push or do, it still is going crazy and driving me nuts. :hihi: Oh well, I am bringing it in for service tomorrow, but has this ever happened to anybody? If the nav system is bad and they have to order a new one under warranty, do you think they would do the DVD version if I paid the difference and/or what would the difference be?

Mine was fixed by warranty replacement of the NAV unit (not the display, but the part in the trunk)

Search for nukin' futs:

While one person reports a fix with this upgrade, mine had a bus problem... still, the upgrade is certainly worth a try! Other things to check are connectors (unplug and replug, to make sure contacts are sound)

No known cause or resolution.

So far a one time occurence.

Good Luck with yours.

I made an appointment for service and of course it is working perfectly now.:3: I hope they can pull some kind of error code at least. I will mention the upgrade to v25 though.

happened to me too once, never reocurred. THere was a message on the nav screen that the temperature was too high and the system had shut down (or something like that) but the screen tilted open and closed for about 10 minutes. It really wasn't a hot day, about 80F so who knows. Never recurred, the episode was maybe 6 months ago.

To determine which Nav OS software version you presently have, go into either “Set” or “Settings” from the main menu of your navigation screen. In the upper right hand corner you will see SW x-x/xx (see picture below).

  • The first number indicates which generation navigation system you have. 1 indicates MKI, 2 indicates MKII, 3 indicates MKIII, and 4 indicates MKIV.
  • The second number (which will most likely be 1) tells you that you have the full color “high level” nav screen.
  • The third numbers tells you the software version. For example, the version 18 disk will take a MKIII system to version 4.0 and show 1/40.
The following table will tell you the version number of the OS that you are currently at:

This 4-1/10 software for MK4 has never been released on any CDs since it was a temporary beta software they had to rush out since all cars from 09/02 would have the new DVD based MK4 unit.

The V20.1 CD will install 4-1/12 and remove the text "T20.10" at the start up screen. The only software version that has this text is the beta version of 4-1/10 that was used at the factory for a short period while finishing the 4-1/12 that was released on the V20.1 CD.

Service tech at dealer couldn't communicate with the screen so they say they are replacing the entire NAV screen.
