Nah. Burnt rear tyres, of course, but I doubt the clutch was abused too badly. I think it's safe to assume Montoya knows how to launch reasonably well. He didn't do it too many times and each time the rear tyres broke loose (meaning the extra force was released there, not in the drivetrain). The rear tyres would've been shredded, though.

What's more interesting, I think, is that he wasn't particularly good in the first vid. He wasn't holding the slides very well. I remember reading Autocar sideways challenges and usually the pro racers don't do too well -- they're trained to go fast and keep the car in line as much as possible, so they lose out to guys like Gavin Kershaw (Chassis engineers). Or guys like Tiff, who specialise in car control and tyre behaviour at the limits.

Wow, I wish I had a spare set of tires. I've got an urge to go do some donuts.

I thought the same thing about the first video. He didn't seem to control the slides as well as I would have expected. In the second video, I noticed he doesn't shift very hard either...but he keeps his revs up.

lol...I also have a feeling the sway bar brackets would have been broken
Come on. These are M-cars. If they get driven hard and they break, it would be a pretty shameful on the engineers. People just don't realize how much testing and punishment that these machines go through while being built and are designed for. Any car that breaks swaybar brackets after a half day's worth of donuts is pretty pathetic.

Just because you or I don't drive like that daily doesn't mean the cars aren't up to the task. :)

Thanks for posting; I just can't get two things out of my head:

(1) The incident when JPM told a cameraman "you broke my ***king head!"
(2) JPM won't get an E60 M5 to drive next year :p
