You have to unplug the power from the trimble unit, there are instructions on how to do so properly on bimmernav.com
Also, you should check that your GPS antenna isnt kinked or wrapped around somethng too tightly (minimum diameter for a loop is like 2" or something or it strts to malfunction).
The next thing takes a bit of patience, the car sometimes needs a bit of time to triangulate it's proper position. I remember when I upgraded to MKIV, my car was somewhere in DFW, Texas instead of Miami, FL. After about a solid day of driving around, it finally figured out where it was and hasnt missed a beat since.
