So I finally got a moment to run up to the only dyno in town and I must say it sure is fun to listen to the beast rev up to 7k WOT. :)

I wasn't expecting strong #s with the very hot weather, temp sensor hit 102 on the way there and their machine was reading 99+ deg air temp. But after all said and done she pulled a respectable (I think?) 335rwhp/324tq corrected (322/311 raw). She's stock, just has cans and dinan stage 1 s/w which isn't supposed to add any power that I know of.

What I was slightly surprised by was that she kept getting stronger run after run..like she wanted to be pushed harder! :M5rev:

Here are some pics, vid and graphs of my first dyno run which will serve as a baseline since I have SS headers, x-pipe and then a tune coming..I'm thinking I might get those parts installed before a tune/chip, dyno again..then send my dynojet files for a more 'custom' tune to a tuner like powerchip. what do you all think? or would i be nearly as good going with $300 off-the-shelf tune like TMS/conforti shark?

Thoughts on results? I think these are about par for stock M5 right? How does the A/F ratio look to you guys?

Thanks all! Love this board and all I've learned so far..

Nice numbers, Ben! I don't know if I missed it, but I don't see the A/F ratio graph posted. I just see the measured # of 18.4 on the computer. Not sure what that stands for as it looks like the car is off and not running on the dyno at the time.

BTW, beastpower brackets

Oh and I found out my rear sway bar brackets are toast..apparently one was practically dangling! Time to look into better ones..

Thanks! A/F # are on 2nd graph, right hand side readings..

Yeah I've read a lot of people go with beastpower brackets..seems to be the top choice. Appreciate it.

Nice pulls man. Your graph is very much like mine at stock. I had the same thing happen with my 3 runs. Each time it kept getting better and better and then settled in at around 337. So I would say your right on par with the numbers I have seen.

Thanks Stack. How do you like the Powerchip tune? Did you dyno after that and did you have any other perf mods done? results? Next step will be to get the right tune after SS headers/x-pipe. Wondering if a $300 tune from TMS is only a couple HP off from a ~$1000+ custom tune.

I guess even though we have ridiculous heat here, we have 93 octane at every station and several places with various race fuels if I ever wanted to get some 1/4mi figures. cherrsagai

You're right on for stock #s.

PS: where in bumblef*** is that dyno?
hiha I was wondering when someone would ask that..yeah, it's in the middle of BFE..off US441, but very conveniently located right by the Gainesville Raceway (see Gator Nationals). The guys are very knowledgeable with dyno use but work on domestic muscle/dragsters, mainly carb'ed stuff.

One of the owners who ran the dyno said he was impressed with the torque curve and said any time an N/A motor can make over 1whp/ci it is pretty damn good. He had just finished dyno-tuning a '69 Camaro with a 503 crate motor that put down about 415-420whp.

He got a kick out of our fuse box location and that it actually had a fuse puller built in.."well isn't that cute, funny germans" he joked. :Germany:

Trust me I know the feeling, I used to work in a corvette shop with a dyno. I've heard it all...but they're just jealous of how nice our cars really are.

Just getting used to the winpep app and how to export data..this seems like a better way to show A/F ratios than the graph.

do you guys see anything to be concerned about or all as expected? figure it should get quite rich up high..but wanted to run it by you all. thanks.

Your welcome! I personally love the PC tune on the car. It definitely feels more responsive and has a deeper growl to it. I do feel the car pulling a bit harder in 3rd and 4th gear then what I was used to in the past.

I am planning to Dyno the car in the next week or so to see what type of results the tune gave me. They claim 12-15 hp of course that's all relative to a lot of factors but my butt dyno definitely feels an upgrade.

The only thing I have now is the magnaflow cans. Nothing else engine wise. I have a set of Dinan CAI that I just purchased coming in the mail so I will put those bad boys on and probably get the tune reflashed to be custom with the Intake if it's needed and do another run on the Dyno.

If you get a chance talk to Matt from Powerchip. Even if you don't get the custom tune they do the guy is a wealth of knowledge on the E39 and tuning. He loves to talk about it and really educate you before you do anything which is something I really liked and made me go with them.

Look forward to seeing the next set of results.

It looks like you are rich from about 5500 and WAY right grom 6000 up. You should be around low 12's. Even with those numbers, your hp numbers looked good. Wondering if the probe is just not reading correctly.

Open up Winpep so that it takes the whole screen, then take a screenshot. Paste the screenshot into MS paint, and save as a .jpg. Post the picture up and viola, youve got readable graphs.

Is that different from what I did in original post?

http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/at...es-tough-girl-2003_m5_dyno_combined_afjpg.jpg

I had just figured you could see more accurate readings from the data that I copied rather than look at the line graph regarding the A/F ratios. I'm sure there's a lot more you can do with WinPep though, will keep messing around with the settings.

So the rich readings from 5500rpm + dont necessarily indicate an issue? Could I be missing out on some extra power if I got those #s where they should be and would that come from a tune? Thanks again all.

You can actually have Winpep separate all 3 graphs out. That way it would be easier to read.

Ah yeah I figured that part out but just didn't want to post up too many graphs since there were 3 runs and 3 different data points of relevance. Definitely useful stuff and glad I asked about getting the files from them.

Hoping to get the headers and x-pipe installed soon, trying to work with my bmw tech buddy and an exhaust shop to see if they can fab the connecting pipes that SS sells for like $330..seems pretty basic.

Glad you liked the vids Torquey, I'll definitely post the post mod results and videos, which I can imagine will sound much nastier! :haha: :M5launch:
