Hey guys here's the deal. I have decided to do a little modification to the ole beast here and need an awesome reputable place to do the work in the midwest...preferrably chicago..but others will do. Does anyone know of any good independent shops?? I want the UUC Stage 2 clutch(possibly stage 1, advice would be great!), x-pipe, coilovers, possibly 60k service, 3.45 diff and some other minor things i can't think of right now! Any help would be great! Thanks in advance!

Fall Line Motorsports are supposedly one of "the best" independents that specialise in perfomance cars in the Chicago area. I have never used them myself but know several people who are very happy with their work (roll cages and race prep) and I see cars with their stickers on them at almost every track event I do. They are very expensive from what I hear but they are Dinan dealer as well as many other aftermarket brands. They also have E39 M5 experience, since they built an S62 powered E46 M3 racecar.

I have used one other local independant shop but he screwed up a simple oil-pan gasket replacement and it cost me a track day because my engine was spewing oil out of the dipstick tube opening in the pan (he forgot the o-ring). If you want to PM me I'll tell you who it is, I don't want to post the name publicly.

Their prices are way out of line. I wouldn't drive 3 hours up there to pay twice as much as you would down here. The things you want done are very basic, I have a guy who has worked on my E55 and M5 and am very happy with him. Get in touch with me and I'll get you his number.

You mean if you pay twice as much your DON'T get a 'twice as good' job?!?

Good advice. Match the shop to the job... some places can tackle the Vanos... others can't rotate the tires.

Great reply.......

All too often the dollars spent do not reflect the cost of the process. A quailty facility that understands the car and provides "THUMBS UP" service should be able to demand a premium.

Might I suggest your reading through some of the history on this board alone where all the nuts and bolts repairs are shared and then finally someone puts the puzzle together properly.

Now I agree that replacing the exhaust is not rocket science however I have seen far too many installations where the easiest path was taken and the results are functional but "FRICKEN" ugly.

Just food for thought.

Regardless...... enjoy your gal

Take care
