Hello everyone!

I am posting this message on behalf of a close friend of mine. he has a 2003 m3 e46 cab and was driving it pretty fast, around 130km/h and hit a very very large pothole (something like half a foot deep, 2 meters long and 1 meter wide!!!) all 4 tires popped, all 4 rims damaged, passenger side airbags went off, bent chassis! No body damage (very surprisingly). quoted at the bmw dealership for parts and labour at about $8500 in repairs.

They said everything is fully repairable, even the chassis. BUT the question is, even after full professional repairs will he be able to drive his car normally again, what problems do you think he will or will not face..etc. Should he fix it or scrap the car? :S

thanks in advance!

^^ I remember reading a similar article about a similar incident in the UK Daily Mirror a few years ago. E60 M5 owner hit a massive pot-hole causing quite a good amount of damage to the vehicle - there were no road signs or anything warning drivers about this pot-hole. M5 owner ended up suing the local council and got a brand new M5 out of the lawsuit. Food for thought.

EDIT: Sorry just saw your "location". Forget the lawsuit as it would take years.. lol. If the chassis is bent, then I personally don't see a point in fixing the car as it will never be the same again - I had a bad accident in my ex-E46 M3 back in December '08 and same thing the chassis was bent, all airbags out, etc..I told my insurance co to write it off as I wouldn't trust anyone even the dealers themselves to make the car like new.

Glad your friend isn't hurt -- just let him get in touch with his insurance co. and see how much they will give him for the car then he can make a decision. These pot-holes are a nasty business in Bahrain especially in poorly lit areas.

SAME exact thing happened to my friend..in the process of getting the city OR construction contractor who ws responsible for that pothole. No signs, no lights, no warnings and he was from a foreign country (bahrain). Problem is...this took place in Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia! Lol..thing is, the suit has been going on for a while, now..being reviewed by many ppl at the moment as they do not have experience with this incident before and don't have any rules or regulations according to this type of incident (what are they living in Caves!?). So in the meantime his father has taken the car to a very reputable german cars specialist in BMW and Mercedes (see alot of M3's, M5's, SL65AMG..etc) and had it all fixed there except for the passenger airbag atm..made it drivable. So chassis, rims all fixed and brand new tires fitted at a cost of $2500 waiting until the City replies to his case to see if they will compensate his the FULL quoted about by the dealership of $8500 in repairs and he will get whatever else needed to be done fixed and pocket the rest. But is wondering weather or not the car will drive like before even with all these repairs done by a very very professional garage? anyone know bout something like this?
