Woke up this morning and my beloved 01 has been stolen right off the driveway! It was a 2001 M5 Nacht Blau Individual.

This was in the Houston TX area.

Cops have been called, insurance claim filed....

Is there a parts registry that I can report to? All of my parts have been etched with the VIN.

Buzzkill. Good luck man. I'm assuming they got access to a key somehow? Because the alarm is appallingly loud.

Stuff like this really gets my blood boiling . I hope it is just a joyride and your car is found intact. If you're not hopeful it will be found, maybe post the VIN (or last 7) so a google search will reveal that it was stolen.

I hope this doesn't turn into a trend. Good luck with your car, hopefully it will turn up.

Wow! Terribly sorry to hear this bad news. I wouldn't have thought that the E39 M5 would be a desirable car to steal...at least not for parts value unless someone wanted to rebuild a different one. I would think that it is probably some punk who wanted to go for a joyride. I hope that is all that happened and you find the car in it's same condition minus a bit of tread on the rear tires.

This is disturbing. Any theft really, but especially a rare beast as yours. Not replaceable.

Here's hoping its found in good order.

You move from Lake Co IL to Houston only to have your M5 stolen? That sucks man, should have been safer there.

Keep us posted if you hear anything. Did it have any unique mods or blemishes that would help it be identified?

Thanks for the thoughts... The police have been all over the neighborhood since apparently at least 4 other cars were stolen. One of them was a Mercedes just a few houses down. My neighbors car was broken into. From the makes of it, it sounds like a "Gone in 60 Seconds" scenario.

I still have both of my factory keys. I hear you on the alarm.... I think I would have heard it too. I had it parked on the driveway in gear and the barking brake engaged. But it was nose-in. We're thinking they came with a truck and just lifted it and took it away. It's usually a garage queen, but I just moved here to TX a few weeks ago and my garage is still full of stuff that needs to make it way into the house.

The last few digits of my VIN are 1BZ98674.

I do hope it will turn up, but my thoughts are this is a pro job and it's probably on its way to africa or south america. Everything thing is etched with my vin. Every panel, every piece of glass.... So using it for parts would be difficult.

Fingers crossed.

Sorry to hear about your car. Posting of the VIN is a good idea. There should also be a site where we can post pictures and other info about stolen cars, that way we can keep an eye out for them. It might help track them down. Hope it all works out for the best.

I second that thought! A sticky of vin numbers and pictures of stolen cars would be a great way to make a world wide APB. Very sorry for the OP, such a terrible feeling to have something stolen from you let alone a rare beast.

How about it???? Perhaps the moderaters can chime in and see if this is possible.

Guys if you like your machines get a GPS tracker. I got 2x installed -

1st GPS tracker is mobile phone SIM based that reports location for me on map anywhere in the world.

The 1st GPS also sends me SMS warnings if the car loses connection with GPS, if the car moves out of range of house at night, if the car moves with ignition off, if the car is started, if the car's GPS re-connects after battery being pulled, etc. All kinds of warnings are set and customizable. Then download a SMS alarm app on phone and monitor for incoming GPS SMS and start screaming at night full blast on phone if things go wrong, making sure one doesn't sleep through it. Then guns, have guns at home. No one takes M5 or your woman without serious resistance.

2nd GPS is a low frequency pinger (that I don't know where it's located, hidden even from me) and due to low frequency can send signal through basement walls or containers. It doesn't need the battery to run. My friend has this one also (in Europe) and he got his X5 Hammann stolen and they located it in another country couple days later (it took him couple days to notice it was missing). He also had forgotten to pay for insurance, so it wasn't covered. For this one, if the company can't locate it with the signal immediately, the company will send a scout plane up in the air that can pick up the signal and usually it's picked up pretty quick- like my friend's case of another country.
He just installed a 100,000 volt "electric chair" in his driver's seat if the car is started without the right sequence of buttons. Yes, he's crazy. I asked him "what if things go wrong or malfunction?" .. "Then the thief dies". LOL

Terabass:

Don't want to hijack thread, and feel awful for the OP but any brands you can recommend? There is a lot of product out there.

Thanks,

That's Terrible! Sorry for your loss.

On that note, I was just thinking about recovery products recently, like LoJack.
is it worth it? or are there better products out there?

I have Lojack on my Audi A4 and A6 (sold)... and I know where its installed.
Wondering if I can transfer the tracking unit to my M5.

I just got a email today from my community Police dept. There was a 2004 Escalade stolen recently (locally) and a surveillance cam shows he had a small box, and just walked right up to the car, got in. Few seconds later, drove off.
Makes me distrust factory alarms.
