Got my new M5 a few days ago, and I look forward to driving it every day. It actually reminds me of when I first got my E39 M5 in 2000. :) I've had a few Mercedes and a Corvette in between, but I think I'm glad to be back in an M5.

Those active seats are downright bad to the bone. I'm still learning all the new features, but loving every minute of it.

I read a post the other day about riding in a car vs. driving it, and I have the exact same feeling. My 2004 E55 was awesome (still kind of sad to get rid of it), but man, this M5 feels like I'm really driving the car again. The best part is that if I have to talk on the phone or do whatever else, just throw it into automatic.

My Treo 650 works like a champ with the Bluetooth.

I love everything about this car, couldn't be happier.

My only complaints are as follows:
1) I have to wait 3000 miles to actually have fun with it. My guess is that I will break and start hammering it around 700 miles. Just not sure I have the will power.
2) I wish they would have made more agressive styling vs. standard 5 series.
3) For the love of god, why are all of these german car makers putting Continental tires as OEMs on their cars (same thing with my E55). Having worked with and knowing Firestone / Bridgestone make the best tires in the business, I wish they came with some REO50's or SO3's. Of course no French Michelins (for a magnitude of different reasons).
4) The speed limiter. Ridiculous.

My 2 cents!

Thanks for the entertaining post. So what exactly will I be able to do with the 650?

I depends on your carrier. I've tested full phone operation and speed dial (subset of address book) sync with Sprint and hear that the Cingular version is the same. If you have Verizon, you're SOL, because they've decided to disable/cripple many Bluetooth features in their phones.

Sounds like I'm in luck since Sprint is my carrier. Thanks for the info.

Well if you have had a lot of experience with a Palm Treo 650, having it work with anything is a pretty rare instance, so when the bluetooth hooked up and worked with the M5, I was ecstatic.

It doesn't get the full address book, only the quick dial numbers. That's fine because you can put up to 90 or so of those in (I think). Not sure why it doesn't go to the full address book.

The full address book can be thousands of numbers (it is for me) and that would make scrolling through them fairly unusable. The speed dial subset makes sense to me for the current design.

Of course, I would allow integration with the full address book and provide access to it through the Nav-style entry mechanism. Making this a iDrive configuration option is another (non-exclusive) option.

I actually agree with you. I sync with my outlook that has business contacts from years ago. Don't need to scroll through them every time, when in reality only calling 10-20 numbers regularly (if that). The voice command works quite well for manual dial.

I understand your frustration with the 650. My company has just innovated a new technology that moves processing power from a Treo or other smart phone to the network, then delivers the results back to your phone. If you were the CEO of EDS, you could get instant access to 80,000 employee phone numbers without doing any local sync with your Treo. Now I just need to take delivery on my M5 so that we can get our stuff working with it. (We don't have any M's:flag: in our labs.)

Do you have a black sapphire M5? I may have followed you a little ways by the Galleria past 170 in my Alpine White M5 earlier this week.

I have seen two E60 M5s on the road in STL this past week and my money is burning a hole in my pocket...black sapphire on black merino looks sooo good

Thanks for the quick review. I'll keep an eye out for you. I drive up and down 170 from time to time in my e39 Carbon Blk M5. I saw a black e60 that sounds a lot like yours at West County last week. They were prepping it for transport to Florida. Thought maybe it was for Jim Dolan. I think he used to hail from here once upon a time but it looks like he's either got his or will soon.

I asked if they needed a driver but they said they'd pass on me... :wroom:

West County also has one that was actually FOR SALE. Buyer had backed out and it lasted about 2 hours until someone bought it. It was silverstone though and I'm holding out for my Interlagos blue.

Enjoy!

John
