Are there any companies/people selling M5 tuning parts in Australia? I'm looking to tune mine and all the parts are overseas. It's going to cost a ***** to ship everything then also get tuning from a mechanic. Any solutions guys?

I do not know what you mean by "tuning" but isn't Powerchips based in Australia?

If it is suspension work you are looking for any shop should be able to install Coilover, strut braces etc

There is only one ESS tuner in Australia and that is WorxAuto in Melbourne. Speak to Stephen - he'll hook you up. He also does exhausts/brakes etc.

As for parts, I've been there done that! It is cheaper to ship it in from overseas. Punch in your VIN number on realoem.com and get the part numbers. Then jump onto Pelicanparts.com, enter the part numbers and order. Shipping is cheap as chips. FYI - do not order parts over $1k in one shipment or else you get pinned by customs.

Well my engine is busted anyways and there aren't any for sale in Australia that I know of. My mechanic says the block has some kind of crack or something. DO I need to import one or something? How much is that going to cost, I found an S62 in the US for $11,000 AUD but the shipping and all. Give me some input guys as I'm considering parting it out. Problem with that is I cannot be bothered with each part and I need my car. Bloody nightmare.

It really depends on your commitment to the car and what sort of $$$ you want to throw at it, if any.
Your lucky that AUD is worth the same as USD, so it's just a personal thing.

If the car was working perfectly what would it be fetching right now?
If it's worth say 50-75k?
You could look at it this way and say that your car's worth diddly now with a busted engine.
It's like 15+k investment so it returns you an asset worth 50-75k straight away.
Not sure what the cars worth not running under it's own power, but I'd guess 1/10th of when good and making 400hp.

You could always look in to a rebuild, but you might be near that engine purchase/ship/duty costing from the US?

You could go down the route of getting a M52 540i engine and rebuilding the bottom end to spec or better as this is how BMW started with the S62

You did say the only the block was cracked?

Lot of work but quicker than waiting for the S62 engine to turn up, also that might need a lot of work anyway

Hell you could even put the 540i engine in with a SC and get the s62 rebuilt at your leisure with a view to putting the SC on that engine!

All down to funding though

Good luck

Well if I got an M62 I'd be turning it into a 540i which would diminish the resale value by ALOT. The car is in excellent condition to be honest. Always serviced and besides from the engine the chassis and interior, suspension is all good, even the gearbox is good. It's only done 92,000 kms and always serviced, the engine problem really surprised me. Now I would be willing to spend 15k on the engine but that would really be all that I would. I mean if I can just get the block and only the block then i could use the intake, cams etc from my engine right? Why waste the undamaged parts. And cheaper to ship right?

You might be best to make another thread on the topic of rebuild V's 2nd hand engine.
You'll get some good impute on costs and so on and a better fell on what direction you'll go.

A few years ago two S62 motors were sold in Australia, my mate bought one for his E34 conversion and the other I think went to Rubin at BMAuto in Perth, I think they both were sold for about $12k Aus with gearboxes. Rubin may have a block, I think he set himselft up as a BM M car specialist. I also agree with the recomendation to talk to Southern BM, they are able to source rare stuff.

Can I get a contact number on him mate? I went to another mechanic and a friend who is a mechanic, both said the same thing. But like I said isn't it pointless to get a complete engine, I mean my gearbox is very good and so are the engine parts which don't need to be replaced. I would pay up to 15k so if anyone know an aussie who has them then perfect as the whole importing the engine thing is more complicated, not that I wouldn't do it but local would of course be the better choice.

Wow that is actually not expensive at all. I really thought it would be more. But how would I know the condition. Does this seller sell good quality parts?
