Hi Guys, this is my first post on the forum, been surfing M5board for a while now, just had my 06 M5 delivered everything was fine except the rear bumper had some prior touch up by a previous owner who didn't want to repaint since the car is paint free everywhere. I have attached some pics, and I guess I will let the board member to help me call the shot on this one, the dealership offered me a free repaint job just make it perfect, however I am concerned about its resale value if I repaint the whole bumper, what do you guys say, should I paint or no?

06 Silverstone/black, full leather, comfort, muti-function/lumbar, heated seats, logic 7, park distance control, xeon, etc....HoperOptik tint 30% all around

Just use a little polish and 90% of it should come out. I would not have them repaint the bumper for such a minor blemish (its a used car). Sometimes a repaint can produce a new flaw when repairing an existing flaw.

It won't be noticeable to anyone, but yourself. Congrats on the M5
curious, which dealer?
It's up to you. If it bothers you, go for it. I can't imagine it hurting resale value. I think that the only time that a repaint really hurts resale is if there is an accident that caused the repaint, which might have caused other damage. Just make sure that whichever body shop they use does good work and make sure that the dealership puts it in the service history of the car that the bumper was resprayed due to some scratches in it.
I think if you just repaint the bumper, should be OK.

I would leave it alone. As somebody else said, it is a used car. Just use a good polish to remove the bulk of the marks and live with it. There would be a good chance that it will be lightly touched again during your ownership anyway.

They do! Pretty much on a weekly basis. There should be positings in the regional forum, but I am sure that Scott or one of the others will chime in here. As I has said before, you are very fortunate to live in the second best place to own an M5!
I had a fender bender on my E46 M3 and the dealer repainted mine... It look fine and was a perfect match. My color was Titanium Silver.

Good Luck,

I hope to be there depending on a work trip.

I'll be curious to hear about Expo. I've heard mixed things about dealing with those guys. I've heard that they're not known for their, ahem, honesty. They often have nice cars and occasionally have what appear to be good deals! I think if you know what you're doing, you'll be fine. Good luck with it!

2nd best? :7:

We don't get snow... that puts us over the top IMO!:1::haha:
Are those spots a result of the acid vent tube from the battery, if so they might get worse.
I wouldn't think it's a problem either way........it's whatever you can live with at the end of the day. Just pick a good body shop if you go the paint route. Good luck and welcome!
Touch-up work is not going to degrade the value. If anything, it looks better! My front end looks like the flippin' moon, but being pelted with rocks at 200 mph does have it's problems.
thanks for the opinion guys, I really appreciated it
I think they are under new management since they moved, sometimes they offer good deal on high end cars, but this particular one I bought was well maintained, previous owner had full front bra done, interior is pretty good, low mileage, Im scheduled to see a service advisor next week to make sure everything is cool.

repaint it.. its not a big deal.. goto a good body shop instead and have the dealer pay for it.. plain and simple.. its not like the car was in an accident, and repainting and repairing a bumper is not science.. its quite common actually
And repainted bumpers don't diminish value because it's not detectable by a paint meter like it is on a metal panel.
