Yeah, that's my Jetta. But before you think I am a total goon that has all been photoshopped on my stock Jetta. It came about based on an old thread I started where someone put Ferrari badges all over his Miata...

I think it's truly amazing how many people think that every BMW with an M-badge has a powerful engine under the hood...

Selling ///M badges should be prohibited to people who want to stick it on their 318 diesel (nothing against diesel though I adore the d3 :) )
I will never understand trying to M badge a non-M car. Do people really think they are fooling others? :confused3 They are just fooling themselves.

My 2 cents:

I don't object to anyone addding just one part or building a full replica with the ///M badge on it as long as they admit it is a replica. However most folks with the ///M badges have near stock 525i's etc and just want you to think they have the real thing. Those are the foks with the fake Rolex. Not the 540i ///M sport model owners.

My 330i ZHP came from the factory with small "M" tags on each of the wheels. (It has "M" tuned suspension) Is that OK? :1:

Plus my license plate brackets have the "M" on them too. Did I do something bad? :nono: :1: If so, I feel terrible. :hihi: :hihi:

I do agree with the M5 owners if you car is not a m-power car you should not have an M5 badge on your car. Even if you put the M5 body kit and wheels, But there is nothing wrong with putting M parts on your car. I have 98 540i6 and have the M-Parallel wheels, the M-steering wheel, the M5 lighted shift knob, and the M-door sills not the M5 ones. And by know means do I have any M-Badges on the outside of my car. The one you guys have to remember that BMW does offer M-parts for non M-cars. Also do not forget that the 540i6 was the M5 from 1997-1999 until the M5 came out. Just my 2.cents

IMO M parts are ok. My bud has the same rims on his 330 with the little M badge, I have driven a 528 sport with a little M on the steering wheel. In my book there is nothing wrong with that. However trying to pass the whole car off as an M5 or M3 or M whathaveyounot is not ok. If you own a BMW you own one hell of a car no matter what, so why not just enjoy that?

Weird.

Am I the only person that almost doesn't care about the fakes out there ?

Considering many of us claim to be partially drawn to the M5 by its kind of Q car looks I find it odd that there are not more people of the opinion that these fakes increase the perceived quantity and lead to an increase in the Q element, thus help us to be not noticed.

And of course increasing the public ignorance , increases the impact when you show its real on the road.

If you have it you don't need to flaunt it - much better to have a 520d badge on an M5 :M5thumbs:
If you have it, don´t flaunt it - floor it! :)

I go along with the majority(?) and do not think a non M5 should have a M5 badge on it but find 'M' as a precurser to its true status acceptible ie M525 if it has 'M' parts on it.

I bought a M5 because it is a discreetly powerful car and if I wanted something more overt, would have bought a M3 (with the drug dealer OEM wheels on it).

The best parallel I can draw being a breast man, is picking up a girl with 'chicken breast' inserts in her brassiere and then finally getting her naked in bed. Disappointment would be an understatement. grrrrrrr

Stumbo do you know my misses? It sounds as if you have seen her. I do tell her to put them away.......not much mind mmmmmm
Hmmm I wonder if I could push a case through the courts under legal aid under the balsted 'Human Rights Act' to ban 'chicken breasts' ? :hihi:

Only once did I see a 5 series at the gas station when I pulled in. Of course I looked and it said M5 on the trunk lid. I casually metioned that he lost half his exhaust system someplace, and I got the finger for my acute diagnostic skills.

I'm not doing any more free diagnosing!

That's a good one!!! Lost half your exhaust system...

I saw a black 5 series driving along PCH. On the front sides, he had put 4.4i from the X5 and on the right rear he had a ///M and on the left rear he had DINAN.

I blew by him for fun.

No. Fakes are fine with me.

"Oh my god, hes got an M badge on his 525i!!!! **** him and his phony badge! They deserve[d] to die and I hope they burn in hell!"

Ive got bigger things to concern myself with than some guy in his non M BMW sportin an M badge. It simply is not worth getting worked up over it. If anything roll down the window and ask them whether they like M cars. Then go on with life.

Well, just to expand on the M badge think in Australia the BMW dealer want's to see your vin number before they sell you M specific parts, like the badge. However it is a bit of a wan* if you can go on Ebay and urchase a copy of $5.
Personaly I just laugh and shake my head when I see all the 318i with M3 badges which is very common out here.
To each their own!

How much are you paying to witness that?

You can tell me for a few bux...I'll get all twisted, if you throw in another $20.

Rick- If someone gives me $1000 for making fun of a Mustang with Cobra badges on it,I'll give you 50% if you are the one I make fun of....hiha hiha This thread is great, as many threads like this exact one went on and on, and noone got any kind of satisfaction.
Fine, put M badges on non M cars. Do what you want, and enjoy your life. Just expect to be questioned when your 528 has a Dinan M5 badge on the back...
