I finally got around to sending off my oil before the change. I purposely took it to ~9800 miles this time to see what the long term results would look like with this oil since I really don't know how effective it's working. I'll have 10K miles on this interval before I change it this weekend.

The only thing that needs correcting in the report is the engine type. Even though I specified a 2001 M5, Blackstone erroneously reported a 2.5L M52 engine. I notified them and am waiting a response.

This is my 105K mile daily driver and it runs beautifully still. My fuel/oil maintenance routine is simple.

1st month, Lubro Moly Ventil Sauber
2nd month, Lubro Moly Jectron
3rd month, Lubro Moly Ventil Sauber
4th month, Lubro Moly Jectron
...and so on until it's time for an oil change when I drive around with the Lubro Moly engine flush added for 10 mins before I change it.

I just try to keep a consistent routine.

I'm most happy with the condition of my oem oil filter after running this oil for so long. Well, here is the report.

Fuel seems a bit high for my tastes... although this can be influenced by when/how you sampled the oil. Best practice is to drive at temp for 50 miles, then sample. Either hot or cold, but you should not sample after a cold start.

1% fuel is too high?

This sample came from the oil pan after my >40 mi commute home. The car did sit for about 30 mins before I went out and grabbed it.

Are you on the original rod bearings at that mileage? FYI the universal averages for the S62 engine going down the list on my report are:

5,0,13,5,4,1,59,0,2,0,0,1,69,6,7,2029,312,843,1007,0

So is this good or bad. And is this in anyhow relevant for their 10w 60 oil ?
Im asking because I run the lubro moly on my 00 with 150k. Its my daily driver, oil changes every 3k.

Maybe someone can justify this; but I thought engine flushes are not really that good for motors?

No problem.

Yes these are the original rod bearings. I asked about what properties to watch for wear from Blackstone and they said:

"For bearing issues, watch copper, lead, and tin. All three look great at present."


Maybe someone can justify this; but I thought engine flushes are not really that good for motors?
I'm not going to answer that one. :) I just wanted to report the conditions in which I put my own engine under.

How are your valve cover gaskets aka, do you have oil in your spark plug holes? I had an oil consumption that went down a LOT when I changed the gaskets due to the gaskets being so bad.

I replaced all those gaskets and grommets the last time it was warm.

I do know some oil is leaking because I have a slightly bad rear main seal. That's on my todo list next. It's been that way for a while and I have neglected it.

Hmm. That is why the flashpoint is bolded, it is low.

I am guessing you are running a bit rich... did you ever get a smog test report? Have you looked at long term fuel trims? Any thermostat/temperature issues?

PS Sitting for 30 min is fine, it can even sit overnight- once you turned off the motor the oil chemistry was set and will be that way until you start it again.

I did have to get emissions testing done last summer. I don't look at the report unless I failed, and it passed. Also, I did once have a thermostat/temperature issue but that was fixed over a year ago by the dealer.

I read about the flashpoint of this oil. The documentation says 215 deg C(419 deg F). My oil report shows only 375 deg F, so I guess you're right. It is low.

Is this an excuse for me to get a software tune now? :D

I am not a UOA expert, and Blackstone is not either...hence I will not comment on your results, but I will tell you the Blackstone comments are generally canned happytalk. OK?

I would not get a tune, I'd try to figure out why the car looks like it has fuel in the oil and may be running rich due to air leaks, sensor drift, vanos drift (not codes). Fuel in the oil leads to increased wear (ie iron? others?) and fuel shear of the oil. Good news is you are replenishing the oil so you are countering the fuel shear.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll look into it. It may be something as simple as replacing the rear O2 sensors since I did not replace those last year when I replaced the two fronts.

Nope, no effect.

Good luck. I honestly chased my slighly rich running/fuel in the oil (~0.5%) for years.

Interesting post. Leaving it for 30 mins to take sample will underestimate particulates (I assume that is what "insolubles" are a measure of) as the larger stuff settles out pretty quickly.

Another UOA, same routine except the engine was warm from my commute home and the oil sample was in mid stream.

FYI, this oil sample was taken about 3000 miles on the powerchip tune. The analysis shows that my car is running much richer than normal (2.3x), and "iron and lead" appear more prevalent in the sample than the last.

To be safe I'm reverting back to stock tune at some point tomorrow until I hear back from PC. Good news is the oil is performing like it should.

I'm using Lubro Moly 10W60 this round, so the next sample should be interesting.

I'd be concerned with the fuel and the wear metals. Why not get an opinion from a real lubrication engineer? (Like Dyson)

I interpret the iron as not fine based on the mods I've had done since the last oil change. They are unaware of this which is probably why they seem unconcerned until it shows up as a trend.

The fuel and wear is definitely my concern as it wasn't there 8000 miles ago.

Don't think it matters but they have you listed as the 5.0L V10.

Ordered my kit the other day I can't wait to post my results of my first UOA.

Yeah they have the wrong engine. My last one they put a 2.5L M52. I contacted them the last time to correct it and they said they would. Oh well. It doesn't matter though like you said.
