I'm currently looking to get rid of my X5 4.6is, and would like to get a E34 Touring instead. I know that the M5 Touring is pretty rare in the states, but I was wondering if anyone on this forum knew of any that might be for sale in the US right now.
What should I expect to pay for one over here???
Will it pass California smog tests and such???
Also how much of a headache and expensive is it to get parts for the M5 Touring in the US???
Hope someone can help me as I would "hate" getting a E34 530/525 Touring, which is only available with a auto gearbox grrrrrrr
Any help is appreciated!!!!!!!
Thanks for reading guys.

[email protected] the chase is on ??
you shud start to read this thread = http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=50253
-
then use the -search-function- and read, there is a lot !
-
yes, Will Zaraska can be of big help, then there is -Scott Ebstein-, I am
sure also -Jaime- (M5touring owner in CA) wud help (find his e-mail-adress
under the a.m. thread) -
-
there are about 20 M5tourings in the US that I know of (let me know if
you want any details) -
-
import, federalization EPA/DOT will cost appr. USD 6.000 > 10.000 depending
on the agent you will be using, then there is the -waiting time- it can be
up to one (1) year after the car entered an US-port
-
California smog-laws are the most difficult, best to my knowledge there is only
one CA-registered M5touring and -Jaime- is still waiting for his to pass -

in fact there already is a country-man of yours (if you are a Denmark-citizen)
with a Florida-registered M5touring and I believe that car is actually parked in Denmark just now)
-
furthermore not too long ago there was a very nice -M5touring- for sale
from an owner in Denmark, that car was 'for sale' thru -Will Zaraska-
-
so you see you have to be a real enthusiast (not to say M5touring-freak)
and have the -petty cash- to go thru this nightmare -
-
good luck and for any further info or contact-details do not hesitate
to continue this thread or sent me a P/M - (the chase is on) :wroom:

You could always get a E34 525it and swap a E36 M3 drivetrain.
Put on some FI and off you go. It can be done.

Thanks guys!!!
Yeah, I knew it was going to be tough to find ouich
Not sure I wanna do a conversion as it quickly can turn into a money pit, with all that needs to be done, brakes, suspension, Ect.
But which engine would be able to handle some boost better 525/M50 or 530/M60.

If anyone has info on M5 tourings in the US thuogh, speak up please. :typing:

It shouldn't be a money pit. Figure a E34M5 Touring if you can find a legal one in the us will be around 25-35K. A nice E34 525it w/ an M50 should be around 5K. Drivetrain swap to E36M3 7K, suspension 4k, wheels/tires 2K, brake upgrade 2K. Add in misc $'s and you are at 25K. Where is the problem?
You can sell the M50 and tranny for a few bucks too. I'm talking myself into it!

how much more do you want me 'to speak up' :typing:
-
a 'conversion'-project and thereby building a car of your own is one thing -
owning a 'genuine M5touring exclusive rarity' is another -
a 'conversion' is also a 'keep forever-car', selling such a car to it's -real-
value is always difficult, anyway...your choice of course !
-
you know where you can find me :typing:
