My dealer is playing stupid! Just got a call from them saying that they fixed the sensor, they didnt replace and that they are not aware of a bulletin about teh Steering Angle Sensor.

I emailed them the bulletin and a copy to BMW Middle East. I'm in no mood to be messed around with this week!

Oil Leak

I looked under my car today to find an oil leak under the front right part of the car. After everything I'm reading I think it might be the Vanos oil line, but now I'm wondering since my car is not under warranty anymore what will this cost me. I just bought this about 3 months ago from Fremont BMW. About a month ago my car was in for the check everything service and they didn't notice it. They also charged me for a new battery because I was getting the high battery drain warning and guess what? I have the same warning coming up again. Getting pretty frustrated with everything. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks everyone in advance.

Leak...

not too sure about the leak, but i am sure most people on this board will tell you that you need to buy an extended warranty. Gets too costly without it when something goes wrong. I just got my side mirror replaced b/c the glass wasnt movign correctly. 1,000. USD for the job. NUTS! With warranty only cost me 250. out of pocket. Anyway...if its the Vanos, i would imagine it would still be covered since it was a recall....dont think warranty or not matters. Good luck.

I have a question:

My M5 is a July 2005 production, does this mean my car does nto have a faulty Steering Angle Sensor? I doubt it!
Although it does state in the bulletin that the VIN list should not be taken as strict guide to the cars appicable for this recall.

Haven't heard back from the dealership yet, but I brought up the possible vanos line problem and they said it wasn't a recall and doubt that bmw will cover it if it is. WTF? What should I do. I tried showing them the site, but they said it was probably just a one-off. Talk about being frustrated right now. I'll fill everyone in when I get the call back.

My 06 has a bad SZL (steering angle sensor) the fault appears after the car is started and the steering wheel is turned to the left (if the wheel is not turned, no fault appears). I get a DSC and FTM malfunction. The kit to accomplish this repair costs 21 dollars.

A few dumb questions. If you record mp3 files on a dvd will the list of songs come up on the nav screen and be controled with the i-drive. those with the aux jack in the center console can the be controlled thru the i-drive and last can the aux jack be retro fitted to the 06's that don't have them. Thanks for any info you can provide.

your car might have some after market accesories draining your battery. if those accesories are connected to a constant power source it will constantly be draining your battery even if your car is off.

I bought mine as a Jan 06 build and I think the June 06 builds were the first to have the Ipod jack.
There may be different dates in various markets.
My 07/06 build has a jack at the rear of the centre console. This is a generic audio input jack, not specific to an iPod.
I play my iPod touch through this using a simple jack to jack cable in the iPod headphone outlet; but you cannot control the iPod menus from the car.

As for DVD's and MP3's there are two visible slots up front. The lower one is a DVD player for the SatNav, disc, the upper one does not appear to play DVD's but will play CD's and MP3 discs.
The 6 disc changer in the glovebox only plays CD's not MP3's.

Our MINI Cooper Countryman 10/10 build plays my iPod through its USB input using the Apple supplied cable which connect to the computer for set-up and loading; and there you can control the tunes from the car's controls. They are clearly getting there, but slowly.

The most basic step is to make sure your tires are inflated correctly.

Then check the alignment (get a new alignment if warranted), and check if there is too much negative camber that would be causing excessive inner wear.

That's unheard of. Take it to an Indy shop for an alignment.

my car has a Dinan set up, so I'm a bit lowered and my dealership can still do an alignment on mine. Take your car to an indy and see what they say.
