I have a 2000 M5 with 89000 miles on it. It is totally stock.

EVERY time my car reaches 120 MPH it goes into limp-home mode. If I stop the car, switch it off, and re-start it, it is fine again. If I simply turn it off and then back on, and then bump start it, it is still in limp home mode. If I turn it off and start it with the key while movine, it is still in limp home mode.

The only way out of limp home mode is to stop completely and restart it with the key.

I haven't done any track days yet with this car, but if I do, I'm assuming I'll want to go over 120 MPH.

Does anyone have any input or advice. Or, has anyone had a similar problem?

Thank you!

I'll pull the codes tonight.

When you reset the check engine light, does the Peak code tool reset the codes?

If so, I'll need to wait until spring to run it up to 120 again, as the car is in storage for the winter.

Thank you for your help.

did you reset the light via Peake? if so then you can't retrieve but if you just turned the car off and then back on then they will still be stored

No, you will need to clear the codes in a separate step- so just reading them will not clear them.

However, unless you've cleared the codes at some past time point, any codes you read now will be ALL the codes that have appeared since the last reset. Even a transient code will remain in memory.

We usually recommend read, clear...drive.. see what comes back....diagnose

See you next spring!

I reset the codes with a Peake code tool.

I guess this thread will need to wait until the spring time to get resolved.

Agan, thank you for your help.
