What business does the SZL have with the DKG I wonder?

Here's some brilliant work on the E84. I found the vast majority of E60 to be identical. This structure should give some frame of reference for the PT-CAN.

Already ordered wire taps so I'll be the guinea pig.

Since the byte string begins with the ArbID, all messages in a string come from a single component. First step is to identify ArbIDs then break the structure down.

All jobs required for DCT calibration/adjustment can be executed via tool32 at the absolute minimum. Toolset can access and control a module with a direct connection without relying on the rest of the car. Worst case scenario we will need to individually run the jobs without a fancy GUI like ISTA provides, but it will work. If we can make it work in toolset, we can make it work in INPA too. Technically, you could modify the VCM info or manually create a connection with ISTA and just give it e9x info for connection instead of the E60 info. If the physical wires are there, its just a matter of making everyone talk.

Physical plumbing of the air/oil cooler should be straight forward as well as a t-tap into the hot & cold side of the coolant system in the M5

I'd venture a guess and say that those signal ID's are uniform across the model range for at least the generic signals like RPM, VSS, brake signals, etc. Changing signal identities would call for complete reprogramming of the communication system as we know it.

That's kind of what I was thinking. All the actual calibration routines are built into the firmware of the modules themselves, so it's just a matter of getting EDIABAS to send the correct commands to the correct module.

I build a custom .IPS at one point to poke around the SMG a bit. I would think building an .IPS for DCT should be achievable as well, even with the graphics. As you said though, should be able to access it via the E9x menus.

Another thing to note....judging by the block diagram, PT_CAN is not directly wired from DKG to the OBD port - it goes through the Junction box. Were going to need a JB to be able to talk to DKG. D_CAN is the roadway to the JB, from there, JB puts you onto the PT_CAN - which means we will no longer need to trick ediabas into thinking hes talking to a e9x. We will simply wire a 2nd OBD port to the JBBF, from there ISTA will know what it what to look for depending what is on the bus.

Is this the "footwell module" on the E9x or a similar module to KGM? OBD to KGM is the path for us to SMG via PT-CAN, correct?

Technically it's the fuse panel electronics but it looks like it's serving as a pass through for CAN communication. If you look at the PT_CAN schematic, everything on PT is behind the JB.

Connection is not shown from DCAN to PT CAN. Either its controlled by the JB with transistors (likely) or it has constant continuity (unlikely). we need someone to do a continuity check from pins 1, 2, 33, & 17 to see if we will need a JB or not. If its simply a bridged connection we can omit the JB for a simple piece of wire.

As far as any real evidence has surfaced, Gintani is *planning* to do this on Tamirlan's M6 TT build. Along with a bunch of other dreamy cool stuff that seems above and beyond at this point. Not downplaying their ability by any means, but so far I haven't seen anything besides renderings and prototype pictures.

I've heard elsewhere that the Gintani car has run with DCT, but still think it odd there are no better pics/vids/accounts of it. Given its a commercial venture for them, I doubt they'd be willing to share much with us, but who knows.

I received my DCT gear shift assembly this weekend. I was pleasantly surprised to find the three mounting holes line up with those of the SMG shifter. The base is larger on the front left corner to accommodate the parking lock, so I'll have to get center trim removed on my car to get a feel for underneath.

Thought I took a picture, but apparently not. Will post later.

Confirmation from Jim Blanton of Performance Gearing this morning:

The 3.15 ring and pinion are interchangeable onto the E6x diff carrier
