I have seen many thread regarding how loud the exhaust is. Some time the video/sound clip may be perceiving. I believe in number never lie (with consistence in obtaining the value). So far I have been collecting several data from myself and other members. I think this thread will be helpful to many when choosing the exhaust setup. Loudness can be represent with dBA even though pitch/exhaust note may varied and depend on member's preference. That why if we can put the dBA reading with video clip. It will be very useful. I will go ahead and start from what I have. Please feel free to edit/correct/post what u have.

Under the SAE standard, a sound meter is placed 20 inches from the exhaust outlet at a 45-degree angle and the engine is revved to three quarters of maximum rated horsepower. The highest decibel reading is then recorded (in our case would be 380hp at ~5600RPM)

Nice. Don't forget bone stock (m5baller) and perhaps cold Idle. Maybe
we can get some readings at the Bonehead meet. I'll bring my db meter.

I tried this in the past, but my thread got moved, so I only had so many people see/post in it before hand.

Hopefully we can get a better compilation in this one.

Great idea Kenny. I'll try to get some recordings ASAP. There's a video clip of the RDSport exhaust on their website but I'm not sure what they have on the car (exhaust, exhaust + x-pipe, or exhaust, x-pipe and headers/cats...).

I also like how you've defined the criteria for the recording (idle, 5600rpm, 7500 rpm), otherwise, we can have a bunch of videos of people mashing the gas, taking off, revving up and down..hahaha

I reserved a space for your RD Sport on my first post already...I can search and get a bunch from youtube, but I rather prefer getting it from our members here on this m5board (even though most of us still gonna link to youtube site). No hurry, I will send you a reminder every month, until I get your info/clip.:biggrinbounce:

I agree, fantastic idea Kenny. Reducing the variables as much as possible will make these clips much more useful, not only to people looking to jump into a new exhaust but also for those considering modifying sections 1 and 2. The only things that really can't be controlled are the quality of the mic/recording and ambient noise, although I hope most people are keeping the latter in mind when making their clips.
