Later Sat Nav display graphics

I have a 2001 UK spec M5 and I recently went in a late 2002 model with the same wide screen sat nav. The display was much nicer, different graphics, layout and colouring, can this be updated as it looks like the hardware is the same ? (Both widescreen)

you might need to update the firmware version on you system, go into the settings menu and note down the top right no, think the latest 3-1/63 on the mkiii (cd) and 4-1/50 on mkiv (dvd) systems.

Tin Thanks, My display says SW 3-1/31 Does this mean I can have the software upgraded ?

i was looking at doing a similar thing and was told by BMW:

a) i would need to ugrade to split screen software;

b) then update the operating software.

sounded like a lot of hassle + expense for minimal gain so i have posted below re upgrading from CD to DVD.

yes, you should be able to update the satnav firmware to 3-1/63... if you car is still under warranty, i believe this is a free update. Alternatively, it can be done yourself, but downloading the latest firmware from here

I'd personally get the dealer to do it, as I'm not 100% if you need the cd key for 3-1/31..as its a pretty old version. I had the mkii system first, and updated that, then moved onto the mkiii and now finally onto the mkiv dvd based one, updated them all myself, without any hiccups.

i think the cd key is required for 3-1/31 [according to all the info i sourced online]

tin - any info on how to upgrade from mkIII to mk IV would be gratefully appreciated.....see post below
