I've seen a couple pics of the work Laidback has done, and its top notch. He is a board member, maybe he can help you or point you in the right direction.

Also, will it really hurt the car to put in lower octane, with the gas prices skyrocketing???
Tell me you're kidding. In Cali we get the crap 91RON stuff as our "super." It barely does the job and I'd happily pay another 30cents to get 93 over the $4.19 I pay for my this trash. Look, in Europe they pay $8 gallon to fill an M5 which costs 40% more to begin with so we're clearly not in the worst of situations.

Anyhow, it's your car so do what you wish but the fact remains that if your the owner then putting less than 91 in an E60 M5 is the epitome of bad decision making.

I hate posts like this. I will not go into a rant, but let’s say you save $0.10 per gallon so that’s what, X 15 $1.50 per tank, or double it to .20 and that’s $3.00 per tank!! Also I laugh when people do it for another reason, the car will retard spark and performance, with a high compression ratio engine like ours, your MPG will suffer when the engine cuts back, so to go 60mph will take more energy with lower octane gas, than with higher octane gas, so you might actually pay MORE by having to fill up more often by using cheaper lower octane fuel.

Yeah I agree, complaining about paying $3.00 more per tank while driving a $100k car seems pretty ridiculous. If fuel prices and consumption worry you, then the M5 was definitely a misstep.

I'm in CA and use 91 octane. With each fillup I add a bottle of Gumont Octane boost just to make sure I'm in the right range. Not sure it does anything, really, but the M5 is a beast, that's for sure! Each bottle costs $2 and gives me piece of mind.

But its not fair people keep saying in Europe they pay $8/gallon (rough conversion), the big difference is distance, in Europe, you do not travel the amount of distance we have to travel in the states, I put a 100 miles on my car a day sometimes, and all I did was go to work and grocery shopping. I lived in Europe for long time, and never had to drive so much, beside public transportation is much there better than in the US.
