Maranello, 29th January – King Carl Gustav XVI of Sweden was on a private visit to Ferrari today, accompanied by the Swedish Ambassador to Italy, Staffan Wrigstad and a delegation of representative from Sweden’s economic, scientific and business communities.

The visit began at 10.30, when vice-president Piero Ferrari welcomed then in the Company showroom where Granturismo managing director, Amedeo Felisa gave the guests a run down on the Ferrari Maserati Group, the many innovative aspects of the production procedure and the factory layout, the model range and the two marques’ commercial successes around the world.

King Carl Gustav and the delegation then visited the New Mechanical Machining plant and the Enzo Ferrari production line, where they talked at length with engineers and heads of the two areas. After the factory tour, the King of Sweden met the Managing Director of the Gestione Sportiva, Jean Todt who, along with Amedeo Felisa presented him with a camshaft from a Formula 1 V10 engine, as a memento of his visit.

Among the Swedish delegation which accompanied the King, were the President of the Academy of Engineering Sciences, Arne Wittlov, the managing director of Electrolux, Hans Straberg and the managing director of Volvo, Hans-Olov Olsson.

From hansstuck.com

In 1979, Hans drove with King Gustav of Sweden. A private area was selected at a monastery near Munich and, at the appointed early morning hour, a helicopter landed with the king. The pair then drove the new BMW M1 to and from Garmisch. At one point, King Gustav made a fast racing turn and lost the helicopter. Hans said the royal attendants were ready to call in the elite troops when the pair returned an hour later!
