Am I the only guy that was amazed when the SA put my key into some sort of reader and got ALL sorts on info. From mileage to service indicator bars, etc. It was frickin' amazing.

Yes, it is amazing. I couldn't wait to ask the service guy insert the key of my beast after I bought it a year ago. Everything I heard from the guy selling it to me matched. Relief!

Two comments (yes, pretty cool thing):

Obviously, the last key used will have the most recent data. The 'spare key' deep in the junk drawer has the data from the last time it was used.

The battery in the key is charged when in the ignition. That spare key might be used occasionally to keep it charged.
