Putting my car away for the winter. Hooked up to a BMW charger but wondering about both key fobs. Should I keep one in the steering column all winter? Rotate them?


Also any worry about the tires? Other winterizing tips?

DO NOT keep it in the steering column, the car wont go into shut off mode i think...

i recently had to replace the battery in one of mine....its just a regular old energizer watch battery. i dont think the car charges it at all actually. but ill let others chime in as well...

If you have CA, the fobs DO NOT recharge in the car. You have to replace the battery. Its a CR-2032, I think?

If you don't have CA, then the battery is sealed in the fob and must be recharged in the car. That said, I would not leave a fob in the ignition. As soon as you start driving the car again, the fob will recharge in the ignition. If the fob will not open the car (battery dead), then use the emergency mechanical key stored in the fob to open the door.

Has anyone tried replacing the old key fob into a new blank one, from Ebay?
