Tom...when i ordered my car, i didnt hesitate to order jet black...but after reading some passionate posts on here about all the great colors offered for the M5, i was thinking i should have taken more time picking a color..until, this past weekend... i spent saturday and sunday washing, polishing and waxing my car...Tom, nothing looks like a Jet Black M5 with a perfect shine...it took my breath away when i was done...black is timeless in my opinion..i know there are alot of black 5 series out there..and some folks want their M5 to stand out from the bunch...but all we really have to do is hit the gas to do that...any choice you make will be the right one..all the best

JEY BLACK IOS AWESOME!!!!

I take VERY good care of mine and it's a daily driver (stunts included). I'm a bit of a fanatic as to maintaining it's appearances, but if you take care if it, you will be highly rewarded as it's the most gorgeous color out there (then again, everythign btu oxford green looks so damn good).

My color scheme is jet Black / Black + Silverstone Sport trim.

Why stand out? I took my badges off. I like to sidle up to a 540 and then try and pick a fight. They don't realize WHAT hit them (then again, neither do the porsches :)

mine is jet black and i'm a fan. i've never owned a car that wasn't jet black, so i'm partial.

i violently agree with stanley that "breathtaking" is the right word, but be forewarned that it really does require a lot of attention to keep it that way if it's your daily driver. if you spend your saturday morning doting on the beast she'll look stellar through the weekend, maybe monday too - but by the end of the week it'll be obvious that attention is due!

good luck,
shawn

Speaking of catching 540's off-guard, I was on Denman Street last week behind a Titanium 6-speed full of teenagers and they were DOGGING it. Just a bunch of brats cruising the strip in Dad's 5er. Annoyingly slow I might add.

Slid around them, and they sped up to try to prevent me from passing (why does this always happen to me?). Pissed off, I just jerked my wheel to the left and semi-cut them off...if it was indeed "Dad's car," he would definitely back off - and he did.

They also got a face-full of M5 badge, raced up beside me and gave me a unanimous thumbs-up. I shook my head and the kid hollered "sorry!"

What was that song Aretha Franklin sang? Started with an "R"...

I have a Jet Black/Carmel scheduled for a September build. Currently own a black 528 Sport. I love the color but the M5 is a long term car. How do you like the color? My second choice is Metallic Silver/black.

Thanks

Had a '98 black 540/6...with a fresh coat of Blitz it kicked butt. I never let anyone wash or wax my cars (not a single paint swirl on that car in 2 years), so the high maintenance killed me. The Florida sun also makes it pretty damned hot. My M5 is titanium/black exclusive...much easier to keep clean. I am selling my 2000--2001 on the way....what color now???!!!??? I have a little time to decide.

Tom M5,

Just picked up my anthracite/caramel/burl walnut two and a half weeks ago. My last car -- a '95 Maxima SE -- was black exterior/black leather. Based on that experience, I decided never again to own black exterior (it shows everything) and black leather (I fried a couple of suited colleagues, who unwittingly agreed to a lift, after the car had been sitting in the sun all day long). I think the anthracite is a nice compromise. It definitely is more forgiving than black (jet or carbon) and -- my $.02 -- more distinctive (read, less common) than titanium. I suppose the caramel interior on the other hand will show the dirt more than black (particularly the mats), but it's way cooler. BTW, I tried to get Tom M5 as my Username. You must have beaten me by minutes! Whatever color, you're gonna love it!

s maxwell,

As indicated in my previous post, I went with the anthracite/caramel combo. None of the pictures I've seen of the caramel do it justice, including my own:

http://albums.photopoint.com/j/ViewPhoto?u=969087&a=7104525&p=24039059

(It's one of these two. I can't check 'cause Photopoint's website appears to be down currently. Anyway, the other is just the exterior.)

The pictures make it look like "sand," but it's much less beige. It's a deeper, richer, almost pumpkin shade (which I like even though I'm not generally partial to orange).

BTW, the www.bmwusa.com site lies! The virtual center (build your own) shows the all-leather option (which I have) encasing the gear shift in the caramel leather. Not true. The leather surrounding the gear shift is black, as is, of course, the dash.

tom m, thanks, i still have a few months to decide. since i live in seattle, the heat isn't too much of an issue most of the year, so i'm still leaning towards black, though i did see an anthracite/black leather a couple weeks ago, and it is a cool color.
