I was told by a shop that the M5 exhaust is not bolt-on and would require welding if I wanted to put an aftermarket exhaust on. is that true?

It depends. The OEM exhaust is mounting in one-piece from prime-cat back. So, if you replace 2nd cat(section1), resonator(section2), and muffler(section3), then yes, it's bolt-on. Anything after that required a cutting,i.e., if you want to replace just muffler, then cutting is required.

Hope that help,

If I am putting on the Eisennman x-pipe with the Tubi exhaust would cutting and welding be required?

Thanks,
