Just got the renewal quote from admiral.

£1245 fully comp, but that is with business 1 cover + the normal social & domestic.

I'm 28, clean licence, 6yrs NCB, car parked on a drive, with Alarm & Immob & tracker.

Anyone of similar age / circumstances get their insurance cheaper anywhere else?

And I don't want to hear from all you 40+ year olds boasting that your insurance only costs £28!

I have very similar circumstances.

£778 fully comp thru elephant

I'm 27, clean license, 7yrs NCB, car parked on drive, with no alarm (at mo) BMW Immob & a Tracker (not registered at the mo either!!). Elephant don't even require the tracker like most do. No business use on there though...

But got the missus on as that makes it cheaper, and i live in a very low crime postcode, one of the lowest in the country so no doubt that helps.

But elephant is very quick to quote, and you can play around with the quote to see what really makes a difference - oh i'm on limited milage - 10,000 i think...

same as when i shopped about - i couldnn't find anything as cheap as elephant.co.uk, but having the missus on makes quiet a difference (even if you don't tell her!!)
My wife is on my current policy and you're right it was cheaper, even with her 6 points!

However, I use my car everyday for traveling to work and therefore must have the business and higher mileage cover.

When I got the car, I was getting quotes for 2k+, just wanted to see if I was missing a trick somewhere.

Steve, is your missus named on your insurance?

Jen is on mine for one main reason: She makes it significantly cheaper! She's 30 at the moment, driving since 17 with no accidents or claims. Had her permission to refer to her as 'spouse or partner'.

I'm not entirely sure why it becomes cheaper, possibly because they like to encourage family policy referrals? Perhaps you seem more responsible?... Best guess.

Example 1: Elephant

My M5, 1yNCB, £1780 just me (24). Added Jen to the policy as a named driver, £1360.

Example 2: Admiral

My M5, 2yNCB, £1255 just me (25). Added Jen to the policy as a named driver, £960.

Example 3: Elephant

My 330D, 3yNCB, £1010 just me (26). Added Jen as a n/d, £614.

Try it for yourself, or if you don't believe what you read on the internet, I can tell you in person on Sunday. :p

You don't need business cover for travelling to and from work though, only if you use it FOR work. I also don't really ahere to my limited mileage as they don't know what miles are on the car at any time. And after all my odometer is in kms, so a bit like your "didn't know how fast I was going officer - its in kms" i'm on the "how many miles do i know i've covered":haha:

I have more than one place of work.

I was told you don't require it, if you are traveling to and from the same place of work???

Like you, I'm nowhere near my 20,000 miles a year cover!

Is you car owned by your company or you ?
If its owned by you & you have another vehicle, which you do, then dont mention the business use, its a killer
Just ask for SDP & traval to & from your place of work.
Watch the premium fall.

FYI
I just went back to my insurance broker AS FLUX who have been ok with me but accept they are a pretty inconsistant.
They have revised the quote to £495 protected comprehensive with 60 day green card comp cover for both of us to drive.

Wicked...

That is cheap as chips for this sort of car. Im happy

Nice one Farrell.

I must admit this is the first time ever I have taken business cover.
It's just that as I drive so many miles, if something did happen, I'd hate to get screwed on some technicality and walk away with nothing..

The car is privately owned and not connected to the business at all.

Maybe they do a special ( i can only drive it during the day cover )!!!

Yeah the business use is what's killing ya - probably shave £300 off if you dropped that - have a 'massage' of the facts on the elephant.co.uk site, as its really quick and straight forward.

I insure mine thorugh Direct Line. As someone has stated, it's the business asspect which is jacking up the price - Direct Line include business use as standard at no extra cost. My insurance is about £500 per year fully comp with protected no claims. I dont use mine for business as it is a 'third car' but business cover is on the insurance cert. Hope this helps.

I recently took private cover (had business cover for the past 5 months), got the best deal from Norwich Union. I have zero no claims on this as it's my second car, the standard premium was £950 but increasing the voluntary excess from £300 to a grand dropped the total to £625, figured i'd take the excess chance considering i've only done 2000 miles since January!

BTW i'm 34, personal use only, 1994 six-speeder, zero points on licence.

Only other thing to note is what i've read on the board before - it can help if you add a second driver, esp a female, to the policy - i think that saved me an extra 10% or so too.

Cheers,
David.

Just me, 25, registered keypad to block starter, fuelpump, etc.

Used as a second car, and thus limited to 12.000kms/year.
3rd party, legal aid, and extra passenger coverage

€924.- per year

BTW, the other car is a cheap 1994 (cost me €1250,- 100.000kms ago, it's at 303.000km now) diesel runabout, covering about 75.000km a year and is insured by the same company, as a business car. Rates are similar to the BMW due to unlimited mileage required. Have about 60% no-claim on both policies.
