To take things back to the OPs question:

-yes, it’s worth scouting out a set of good injectors.

time and mileage are now colluding against even prudent S85 owners. There’s no way to predict, but more than a few owners on here have experienced hydrolock at some point.

that said, I wouldn’t be in such a hurry as to fear driving the car while you scout out a decently priced set from a reputable seller. These things get made in production runs, and we must be at the point where they are getting low supply.

I just discovered an injector that passed pulse testing dry or under gravity feed but the moment it’s under pressure sticks open after the first few pulses and just dumps. If you don’t believe it could hydrolock a motor I’ll put a video together of it.
Car was dumping white smoke, ohm test was perfect, initial test with carb cleaner indicated good, only through further testing did I figure it out.
RockAuto sells them at 50 a pop.
can you share more details pls. Was this OEM ?

If this can happen, sounds like changing injectors is a really dicey job. Even the BOSCH ones can tank, we don't know if they are real or rip offs. Or a bad batch, so not limited to my cheap ones on ebay. Its a common issue for any fuel injected engine, not just the s85. Any new injector then should be on a test bench and validated before going on the engine. <-- @OP.

There is some sellers on ebay offer it for 350$ a set currently, the original ones has a digital sticker attached on the body. Sensing the market, didn't see product many variation on the injectors, either original or the Chinese that I discovered, so the probability to get fake oem is really low.

Seems the price of injectors has really gone up from previous threads over the years. Was looking to do all 10 injectors as PM in my 08 M5 with 90k but at basically $700 after tax now does everyone feel it’s still reasonable for preventative maintenance? Just replaced the fuel filter last week.

Is $15 of a quality injector cleaner at every oil service not good enough lol?
Yes, I recently bought 6 new original injectors for my S38B38 here in Norway and the total price was 912 Euros.

If you buy injectors especially from a place like rock auto, you need to weigh them. fake injectors weight less than the bosch ones.

It was the OE injector, 109k. I had a scenario where I ran the tank dry (issues with the filter/float assembly) and best I can tell either through pushing dirt through the system or pulsing under bad fueling conditions caused two to go, although we know correlation isn't always causation. Started the car the next morning and was greeted with white smoke and reduced power message. This is what caused me to dig bag in and start testing injectors again, and how I discovered cylinder 5 would pulse just fine, and even start pulsing under pressure for 2-3 seconds before sticking open and dumping fuel (carb cleaner) in a completely uncontrolled manner. And I could replicate it over and over again.

Replaced OE with OEM BOSCH 62425 from Rock Auto.

Are original Bosch 0 280 158 036 injectors an OEM part for the S85 engine Gents?
Yes.
Also on the box and on the website catalog this PN/62425.

I had injectors on the way from FCP euro until I found this thread. That ebay seller was way cheaper so I decided to order those too and compare when they got here today. Both ebay sourced and FCP euro weighed exactly the same. Inspected 1 each out of the box and both appeared the same as well other than the date stamp. Going to return the FCP euro injectors and save myself $250 :)

I can’t be certain but I think the genuine bosch stuff is putting a holographic label on their products - I seem to remember the injectors having it, as a sort of anti-counterfeit measure.

anyway, the bosch injectors have some very intricate laser printing on the bodies of the injector and you can immediately tell that it’s a quality product. It should be pretty apparent.

Correct, that part references the OE Bosch part.
Yes.

Thanks for the response Guys. Waiting for the new Bosch fuel pump assy (0 580 314 551) and the fuel filter/sensor assy (0 580 314 553) to arrive. After installing these and running a full fuel tank through, it is time to replace the 10 Bosch fuel injectors. Hopefully, this will give me the needed peace of mind for the fuel system for the next 60k-80k Kms.
FYI, over here in Central Europe the fuel injector costs between 50 and 64 Euros a piece, original Bosch part.

So what’s everyone’s opinion on injector cleaning services vs. buying 10 new injectors? The cost for someone like injectorrx.com to service them to new-like condition is roughly $285. 10 brand new Bosch injectors are roughly $585.

On the S85, new ones until they are NLA, at 30 each for cleaning, too steep to justify when they can be found for 40 new. I had my entire engine block hot tanked for 70ish so...300 seems high for a little pulse n squirt..

I did both.
The reason I cleaned mine since just got the car I needed sometimes till I buy a set so I went a head and took the set to Bosch service center to clean and pressure test them, resistance was low 11.1-10.7 ohm so in this case a replacement is must. Resistance should be 13.2 ohm on new injector. There is a possibility Bosch upgraded the injector raising its coil resistance for a reason (maybe has something to do with hydrolock,,hmm), well anyway it is hard to find out for sure with a multimeter, scientifically the coil impedance and inductance need to be measured with more complex tool to know if the injector is still good even with if it is within basic resistance check limits, aged injectors needs replacement. I always change injector every time I buy used M BMW.
This is the basic tune up kit:
Fuel pump and filter+fuel pressure regulator.
Spark plugs.
Coils.
Airmass sensors.
O2 sensors.
Air filters.
