I recently stumbled across a website http://www.alldata.com/recalls/. I put in the year and make/model of my M5 and it gives good information on recalls and service bulletins. MY00 has a few recalls and a boat load of service bulletins.

It's always been free as far back as I can remember. You just need to follow the right links.

I tried that link, it fives the recalls and service bulletins, but when you click on the specific link for detail, that is when it asks for $$$$$
