what would it be? MAFs or cam sensors?

I've digested all the previous threads, purchased the PEAKE tool, read the read outs ( AE, AF & related MAF faults ), cleaned the MAFs ( twice which helped marginally ) & yet still more than ocassionally receive the severe loss of acceleration @ approx 3,500 RMP- akin to the car going retarded.

Another data point is "pinging" (pre-detonation) under acceleration - very evident.

I don't mind replacing any of components however, I'd like to narrow it down to the best likely culprit.....

Thanks gang - V

Pinging is very bad. Do not drive with this condition under any circumstances unless you want to melt a piston. You may have a fair amount of carbon built up in the combustion chambers that is causing the ping. I would have a look at the knock sensor as well as this should be retarding the ignition timing when it "hears' the ping.
