I just realized that I have a Voice Module that controls the Navigation! It is pretty neat. Press button and talk. Theres about 15 different commands, like "Scale 800 feet"

I know the previous owner mention something about the M5 phone but when I uninstalled the phone I didn't realize it would still controll the Navigation... hmmm

It also has a MeMO to record sounds in the car! Whether they are coming from the front seat or the Back(if you know what i mean... :nono: )

He that's pretty cool!!!

But when I press trhat button I get "no names stored" and thst's it..

Am I doing something wrong?
Maybe voicecontrol is only for the phone or the Navi, not both?
Voice control has to be installed. Parts will cost about $350. Install is easy.

When you install Bluetooth, you also get voice recognition

BMW Bluetooth can be installed in any E39 M5. For older MYs you will need to get a harness adapters to make it all work. Check out www.bimmernav.com and www.advancedautomation.com. A side benefit is that the Bluetooth module already has voice recognition built in. If you haven't done so already, take a look at these sites. They provide lots of information on how to install. Very nice.

Also, one of the most useful commands I find myself using is: "gas stations at current location".

i think if the VR unit was not installed, you would not get any response. If you're getting "no names stored" you just haven't programmed any names into the system. Try the command "Dial Number" and the nav lady should say "please speak the number".

Now what is cool is that you could get a VR unit for a different language, and you could speak that language to your M5 and it'd respond in that language.
Get a german VR module and speak to your car in german. Or perhaps a UK module.... remember the movie 'firefox' (early 80's i think)...

I have a voice control module for sale if anyone is interested. I bought it new from Pacific BMW for my 01 M5 and installed it myself. It really is a 10 minute install with nothing more than a screwdriver.

The best thing about it is the ability to dial the phone by speaking the digits or by saying a preprogramed name. Really is a better way to dial on a stick shift car. Also cool is the ability to control the NAV without touching it. For example, you can say "route map" or specify scale or tell it to show petrol stations.

It works great, and was alot of fun for a while, but since I don't use the phone in the car anymore and since I never really need NAV, I am selling it because I never use it. I also have a photocopy version of the instruction manual, which is key to getting the most out of it and a hard document to find.

New it was close to $400 with shipping. (I can probably dig up the reciept if you care). I would take $200 for it and for that I would include shipping anywhere in the US.

An admin can move this to the classified if necessary, but since this thread is about people who are looking for a new toy, I thought I would post here intially.

i might have mentioned this before, but i was using bluetooth to "dial number". instead of the name i wanted the computer thought i said "gas", because all of a sudden all the closets gas stations showed up on my screen. there must be more to the voice control than i have learned in the manual.
I have a 02 M5, 01 production, I'll take it if is the one i need.

If the voice module is working, you can say "help" and get some information. "Help phone" or "help navigation" will give specific commands.
