Hi guys,

I have got my 06 M5 low beam malfunctioning, and after researching a lot did not find the solution to replace it. How do you guys see it?

1) what is the light type?
BMW dealer says it is D2S, it is written in the cars' light that it is D2S, but UMNITZA says it is D1S, 100% sure, and in some other posts in the Forum I read that it is D1S. Any of you has a 2006 M5 and know it? My conclusion was to open it to see what it is (a square would be D1S, rounded would be D2S). THat leads me to the 2 problem...

2) How do I remove the lights? Can I do it with regular tools, or should I take it to a specialist?

3) Should I change both bulbs? I heard colors might differ If I change only the one that is not working.

thanks a lot for your help!

My understanding is that D1S and D2S can be interchanged, with only an effect on the pattern of light projection, but don't hold me to it. I may be confusing that with the difference between D2R and D2S.

Either way, I'd use whatever bulb the manual indicates - that's what a manual is for, isn't it?

A cheap solution would be to get some bulbs off dmmtuning.com - they are cheap and they come in a pair so both sides matched, and they replace BOTH bulbs if they fail (1 year warranty).

Every single E60 M5 from 2006 onward that we've opened up has had the D1S inside the headlights. It may be different in Europe, but here in the US, they are D1S.

Our D1S bulbs are Valeo bulbs, good quality.
