Hi guys, I'm doing a waterpump and thermostat replacement and I'm a little confused about the thermostat. I assumed it would just pop out quite easily from the housing, but it's not wanting to budge. Before I start getting medievil with a pair of pliers and a blowtorch, am I missing a simple trick?

Ahhh phew, thanks guys. Yeah no, I managed to wriggle it out quite easily after a little persuasion 🙌

LMAO 🙈🤣

It was so badly seized in there, I just can't work out why. The new one slots in firmly and smoothly....really not sure why this one was so stuck. The rubbers were all solid and cracked off like plastic.

I held off on reinstalling the new one because I figured if the main seal was so bad and hard, it'll be prudent to order four new O-rings for the two shaft things of the housing and then fit, so that I know it's a complete job.

Thanks gents.

Yeah mine was well accustomed to its home in the housing as well. I used a bit of penetrating fluid and wiggled the old one out. The rubber seal seems to turn into a solid plastic after years of heat cycling and glycol.

Good call replacing all the o-rings, just make sure everything seats positively before reassembling.

some others have had issues reseating the rad hoses to the housing also, which I did not, but to be aware of. I used a bit of silicone spray to lube the o-rings on the hoses before pushing on, which may have helped.
