From the title, how many should I have in the rear of a 2001 car.

I have 3 actual belts from the rear parcel shelf but only 2 buckles coming through the rear seat, as the rear seat is sculptered around the existing 2 buckles I can't see a logical place for a third buckle to feed through unless it should be directly between the seat and back rest.

If it should be 3 buckles then I'll have to remove the rear seat to see if it is lurking underneath.

12 months I've had the car and only just noticed :confused3 , but there again I've never sat in the back, it was only brought to my attention by a vigilant passenger who felt a need for added security:1:

there should be 3, the third probably fell in behind the seat at some point. Yes, the center passenger belt receptacle does just slip in between the top and bottom seat cushion.

I've had the same problem. I found out the hard way after my wife harrassed me about BMW scrimping on seat belts!

Assuming there's no change between mine (MY2000) and yours, you should have 4 buckles on the bottom - two built into the seat, and two on straps. The person in the middle buckles their belt to the two straps, which you can see since the center belt has two hooks.

Bet ya a dollar to doughnuts, they're underneath the lower seat, which you can pop up by yanking on the front edge, then lifting around the outside edge. Feel around in the back and you'll find the straps.

Good luck! :byebye: cherrsagai

Thanks for the advice guys, I had the annual MOT test yesterday, and the Indy specialist found the 'lost' buckle. Sure enough it was underneath the seat. It sits to the left of the centre arm rest and the middle belt comes over the right shoulder clicking in to the buckle by the left hip.
